System description / Specifications Cooling tower series KRDU for open-circuit cooling with radial fans comprising: The housing and the water collecting tank form a completely assembled unit. It is made of 2 mm-thick stainless steel sheet. The chamfered metal sheets are sealed twice with permanently elastic material and connected with stainless steel screws and washers on both sides. In order to increase the surface pressure of the sealing system uniformly KTK stainless steel profile sections are fitted to the flanged housing connections. An adequately dimensioned inspection opening is located at the rear side of the cooling tower. A conical adapter is fitted between the fan and the cooling tower housing to ensure sufficient distance between the wet area and the fan impeller. In order to ensure low floor space requirements, the fan is partly integrated below the filler. This however increases the height of the cooling tower. The wet area on top is sloped towards the water tank. Housing and steel internals Material: stainless steel, 2 mm thick The high-performance filler consists of fused PP film structures. They are distinguished by a very low pressure loss and an excellent heat exchange. The range of application allows a short-term exposure to temperatures of 80 °C and is particularly suitable for typical cooling water. Filler Where contaminated and fibre polluted cooling water is concerned special fillers consisting of form-closed PP film structures are used. They ensure constant cooling performance even with tolerable deposition. The resulting pressure loss increases only slightly. The filler is sufficiently solid for removal in the event of severe contamination and cleaning for further use. Heat resistance up to 80 °C maximum. Material: PP The water distribution is handled by a stainless steel tube system fitted with hollow-cone spray nozzles of polypropylene that are insensitive to clogging. They ensure the uniform distribution of the water even with a low inlet pressure. Thanks to slip joints, the individual nozzle tubes can easily be removed for maintenance. The overflow and drain sockets have threaded connections. All pipe connections are welded to the cooling tower housing. Suction screen The stainless steel screen is fitted into a frame of the same material and mounted upstream of the drainage socket inside the cooling tower. The screen has a mesh width of approximately 5 mm. The frame prevents vortex effects. The screen frame version suitable for pump operation is so designed as to prevent the intake of air. You can remove the screen without any tools for cleaning operations. Continuous desalination The water inlet socket is fitted with a desalination facility of rustproof material that is accessible from the outside. It allows the adjustment of the desalination water volume even during operation via a ball cock. Fans We use double-active, low-pressure, high-performance fans with forward curved blades. They are certified in accordance with AMCA regulations and distinguished by a high efficiency and low-noise operation. The casing is made of sendzimir-galvanized steel sheet protected against corrosion by an additional plastic coating. The cylindrical impellers are statically and dynamically balanced. The impeller shaft is made of steel with an additional corrosion protection and runs in grooved ball bearings which are protected against dust and humidity by means of labyrinth seals. Subsequent greasing is no problem thanks to corrosion-resistant lubricating lines accessible from the outside. The radial fans are driven via small-section V-belts by self-cooling IEC squirrel cage motors, protection IP 55 minimum, type of construction B3. All motors are fitted with PTC sensors to protect the motors against overheating. Motors with direct cooling are not permitted. We use single-speed motors suitable for FC triggering or Dahlander motors for two-speed operation. The motor is mounted in a horizontal position on an easily adjustable motor slide base of stainless steel fitted on top of the fan socket. Therefore, it is easily accessible for maintenance operations. The tension of the V-belt is easily adjustable via a central adjusting screw. The rotary parts of the freely accessible fans are covered with protective grilles of galvanized steel in compliance with accident prevention regulations. The supports fitted to the motor ensure stability when the fixing screws are loosened. Each fan is driven by a separate motor. In the event of a motor failure in multi-cell cooling towers, the remaining fans keep on running thanks to their dedicated drive. This concept ensures a higher operational safety of the re-cooling system. And if repair is required, the individual single motors are easier to remove and handle due to their lower size. There are no special space requirements for maintenance, e.g. the removal of a shaft. Fan casing The stainless steel casing is matched to the cooling tower structure and fitted with inspection openings sufficiently large for maintenance operations. Material: stainless steel, 2 mm thick The stainless steel casing is matched to the cooling tower structure. The noise damping screens are designed according to the principle of absorption. They are made of seawater-resistant perforated aluminium sheets combined with laminated mineral wool wrapped in abrasion-resistant, moisture-proof and rot-resistant film. Supply and exhaust air sound absorbers Casing material: stainless steel, 2 mm thick Protective grilles including bird protection grilles The bird protection grille is part of the fan casing and covers the air outlet opening of the fan. If the cooling tower is fitted with supply air sound absorbers the bird protection grille is fitted to the air inlet openings and has a mesh width of 25 mm . Material of protection grille at the air outlet: galvanized steel Material of protection grille at the air inlet: stainless steel Exhaust air maintenance duct The exhaust air maintenance duct of stainless steel is matched to the cooling tower structure and fitted with an inspection opening which is sufficiently dimensioned to allow inspection and maintenance operations on the spraying system.
