Solve the following problems, each time, using dimensional analysis. Remember to label
the units in every conversion factor, include the appropriate units in your final answer,
and round for significant figures. Remember, you are expected to memorize all your
metric prefixes and their associated conversion factors. Other ones you might need are
included in the problems (you may have to refer back to previous problems, as they are
only listed once). Others should be common sense or well-known facts.

driver begins to hit the brakes?

long. How many meters is this?
42. You are in Paris and want to buy some peaches for lunch. The sign in the fruit
stand indicates that peaches cost 4.00 euros per kilogram. Assuming that there
are 1.14 euros to the dollar, calculate what 1.25 pounds of peaches will cost in
dollars.
43. A steel tank has a capacity of 775 in3. How many milliliters is this?
44. The density of osmium is 22.6 g/cm3. If a 1.00 kg cube of osmium has a length of
4.00 cm and a width of 4.00 cm, what is its height?
45. If the Starship U.S.S. Enterprise is traveling at warp factor 1.71, what is its speed
in knots? (Remember, Warp 1.71 = 5 times the speed of light, speed of light =
3.0x108 m/s, and 1 knot = 2000 yards/hr.)
46. Diamonds are measured in carats, where 1 carat = 0.200 g. The density of
diamond is 3.51 g/cm3. What is the volume of a 5.00 carat diamond?
47. You have just received a French cookbook from an exchange student. You want
to make 3 quarts of punch for a party. Will a recipe for 2.5 L of punch make
enough?
48. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the heaviest baby ever born had a
mass of 13.28 kg. How many pounds did the baby weigh?
49. If you heat instant oatmeal 6 days a week (and each 1.6 oz package of cinnamon
and spice oatmeal contains 34 g of carbohydrates), how many ounces of
carbohydrate do you consume? (Remember, 16 oz = 454 grams.)
