Redwood Empire Baptist Association Executive Board Meeting First Missionary Baptist Church 501 Drake Avenue, Marin City Saturday, February 18, 2012 MINUTES 1. Welcome, Prayer and Call to Order – Brian Chandler MOTION – made by Milton Steck, seconded by Stanley Njoroge “Move to accept agenda as presented.” – PASSED 2. 2011 Year-End Financial Report – Milton Steck Printed financial report was not available – Milton assured board members that a copy would be mailed to them Milton reported that association finished year a little over $5,000 in the black Milton shared a little background on savings in California Baptist Foundation o When REBA sold property they owned in Vallejo they invested funds in CBF o At present we have approximately $800,000.00 o $750,000 is held in long term savings with interest to be used to support starting churches o Remainder is held in short term savings to assist with overall REBA expenses o We are no longer receiving any NAMB funding o We are pulling $4,000 out of CBF monthly to help with expenses – we have funds enough to last one (1) more year o By the end of the year association will have to make decision on how we can support a fulltime DOM It was the consensus of those present that a full-time DOM is needed Milton shared that NAMB was going through a new refocus – focusing on starting new churches State is giving REBA between $250-$300 monthly to help with DOM medical expenses Camp Cazadero – Bob Lawler Theme for this year’s Children’s Camp is “Shine” We will be going back to having two Children’s Camps with Youth Weekend in between Camp for 1st thru 3rd grades will start with a Sunday Family Afternoon BBQ and end on Thursday of first week Youth Weekend will start on Thursday afternoon and run through Sunday Camp for 4th thru 6th grades will start Monday and end on Friday of second week Dates o Week 1 – July 15-19 (Grades 1-3 completed) o Week 2 – July 23-27 (Grades 4-6 completed) o Youth Weekend – July 19-22 (Grades 7-12 completed) Cost o Children’s Camp – $199 per camper o Youth Weekend – $155 per camper Planning Team is in the process of putting together a “Shine-Kit” for promotion Camp Pastors – First Week, Sandi Lawler; Second Week Bob Lawler Milton shared that there were many challenges for Cazadero o Camp is looking at back taxes, fees and penalties owed to the IRS of between $50,000 & $75,000 o Both staff and board to blame for the situation o Process is on-going to get to final amount camp owes IRS o Camp has cash resources on hand of $40,000 Greatest help from our REBA churches is to use the camp facilities – more income will help the camp in the ongoing expenses 3. Introduction of New REBA Church Applications – Brian Chandler Gospel Fellowship Church, 640 Drake Avenue, Marin City – Philip Ellingberg, pastor Red Hill Church, 921 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., San Anselmo – Michael Snearly, pastor At Annual Meeting pastors will share about their churches and association will vote on their request to join REBA at that time 4. Director of Missions Report – Bob Lawler ACP’s o 60% of REBA churches turned ACP’s for 2011 Represent 8,400 followers of Christ 565 baptisms Churches in Transition o First Baptist, Fairfield Jeff Hood has given faithful leadership to congregation all of 2011 o North Hills, Vallejo Paul Berkley has been serving as interim for fourteen (14) months – Paul shared about the ministry that is ongoing and requested prayer for the right pastor o Tree of Life, Santa Rosa Michael Tonks has accepted position as pastor o Immanuel, Santa Rosa Mike McCamey has accepted position as pastor o Christ-Centered, Vallejo James Soy shared that they have been able to move into main sanctuary in the facility they are renting for an afternoon service – this will enable them to grow o Calvary, Napa English church closed its doors during 2011 New Wine with Jose Miranda as pastor was able to take over facility along with all resources New Church Starts o Mission Church, Santa Rosa – Fernando Berrios, pastor o Providence Community, Novato – Jose Fusilier, pastor o Impact Bible Ministries, Vallejo – Tony Summers o Living Hope EastBay, Oakland – Dr. Samuel Kinyua, pastor o New work started by Tito Raiz is meeting in Woodland – they will be filling out paperwork to received support CLD o Continues to grow – spring semester has forty-two (42) students o Nineteen (19) students (English & Hispanic) received diplomas in both Christian Ministry and Theology last Spring Disaster Relief Training o Southern Baptist are 3rd on national list of first responders after REMA and the Red Cross o Training being offered on March 17th at Petaluma Valley Church – training being sponsored by Golden Hills Association o REBA has designed funds for disaster relief training and is willing to pay part of the required fees New Volunteer – Cost $50, REBA will pay $25 Recertification – Cost $50, REBA will pay $25 Refresher for currently certified – Cost $25, REBA will pay $25 Hunger Funds o There are no Texas Hunger Funds available to REBA this year o NAMB will be giving us $398 quarterly o Leadership Group will be working out a formula for dispersing the funds VBS o According to the 2011 ACP’s there were 1,900 children and youth in REBA churches VBS programs o Training Sacramento – February 25th Woodland – April 14 Mt. Calvary, Fairfield (REBA training) – May 12th Semi-Annual Meeting o Valley Baptist Church, San Rafael – Saturday, April 28th o Bob passed out an interest sheet – all pastors were asked to fill out and turn in as they left meeting o Semi-Annual Meeting will be a training time to meet the needs of the pastors 5.
