Procedure:
Introduction/Motivation:
1. Say: “Okay boys and girls, remember how we were talking about nouns last week?
Good! Now who can tell me what a noun is? A noun is a person, place or thing. Who can
list some nouns? (Call on students who raise their hand) Have students come and make a
list of nouns on the smart board. (Gardner: Verbal/Linguistic)
2. Ok today we are going to be learning about possessive nouns. Explain the term possess.
(Write word on smart board) Explain that possessive nouns show that a person, place or
thing has or owns something.
3. Give examples
Step-by-Step Plan:
1. Have students go back to their seats after writing nouns on the smart board. After done
explaining possessive nouns and giving examples, explain to students that I found a small
video on possessive nouns that I think they would really enjoy.
2. Inform students that if they are not paying attention during the video than I will turn it
off.
3. Turn the video on. Have students watch the 4.5 minute long video and play close
attention. At the end of the video talk about the examples from the video and some of the
terms that were used.
4. Go to the possessive noun easy quiz that was found on the website with the video.
Explain to students that they will be taking it as a class. Since the quiz is multiple choice,
they will all be voting on an answer. After the quiz is done, review the entire lesson
again. Ask comprehension questions and write sentences on the board. Have students
make the nouns possessive.
Closure:
5. Replay the possessive noun video again. Review with the students. Ask for
understanding. Explain to students that we will be working on possessive nouns again in
a couple of days.
