Stanley Robinson Initially, we got to know Stanley Robinson as an LCCM client, but in 2014, he transitioned into a regular volunteer. Stanley now helps us out with noon meal deliveries and with picking up the various grocery store donations, 4 days a week. Because of the help that he found at LCCM while going through a very short, but tough time in his life, he decided that he wanted to give back to his Community. He found such kindness and hope when receiving assistance, that he wanted to be able to give that back to some of the current LCCM Clients. Stanley’s life began on the 4th of July in 1958. He spent his first 5 years in Philadelphia, but because of acute asthma, moved down to Bowman, South Carolina, where he spent the next 12 years. As a child in SC, he used to be able to look over to the next mountain using binoculars, and watch the soldiers train at Fort Jackson. This inspired Stanley to join the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers in 1975. By 1976, Stanley was stationed on the 38th Parallel in Seoul South Korea (right on the North and South Korean border). After being honorably discharged in 1980, Stanley began to hang out with the wrong crowd, and as a result, he found himself incarcerated for the next 27 ½ years (numerous state penitentiaries). When Stanley got out in 2008, he found it difficult to adjust, but went straight into volunteering at the VA, and at Ultimate medical. Through these outlets, he was able to rejoin society and find purpose. During that time, he spoke to young troubled men and gave his testimony. He wanted those men to glean a valuable lesson from his life. When he later fell on hard financial times, LCCM was able to help him to recover and pay some of his bills. Stanley then found out that he had prostate cancer, and after a long battle with Chemotherapy, he has stabilized. In mid-year 2014, he found out that we had numerous driver vacancies that needed filled. Stanley stepped up and asked if he could fill our void. And he has done so, ever since, driver up to 4 days a week for us, sometimes. Stanley most enjoys delivering the noon meals to Clients that are “medical shut-ins”. He said that he loves to trade good conversation with them, and enjoys brightening their day with a warm word. This is what we have come to know and love about Stanley. He exemplifies perfectly, the transition from Client to Volunteer.
