Student Responsibilities for Alternative Text Accommodations If you have not already signed up for priority registration, make an appointment with a DRS accommodations counselor to do so. The alternative text accommodation qualifies students for priority registration at WWU. Priority registration enables students to submit their textbook requests three weeks before classes start. Note: the minimum turn around for requested alternative text material is two weeks. Ordered available textbooks from online resources. A comprehensive list available at www.wwu.edu/depts/drs/students.shtml . Download PT Reader software onto personal computer from: www.cwu.edu/~gellenbe/ptreader/, using Firefox internet navigation software. This program is also downloaded on all computers in the DRS lab. Complete the Alternative Text Book Request form (“the purple sheet”) and submit to DRS office three weeks before classes begin. o The Alternative Text Book Request form is available on the DRS website and in hard-copy form in the DRS office Provide the DRS office with a copy of course syllabus for each requested alternative text. Note: priority will be given to requests when syllabi are submitted. Provide the DRS office with any electronic or typewritten copies of in-class handouts or other reading materials requiring conversion at least two weeks in advance. For Braille users: Make arrangements to meet with an accommodations counselor in DRS as soon as possible. Some materials must be requested a quarter in advance. Purchase materials for which Alternative Text is requested (this is a copyright requirement). Pick up Alternative Text materials in a timely manner. Notify DRS immediately of changes to class schedule, course syllabus, or alternative text needs. Contact your accommodations counselor for assistance if a difficultly should arise.
