The philosophy of Frieden Ltd. Creative Design, as one of the leaders among Swiss
jewellery manufacturers, is to create individual jewellery with a personal touch.
FRIEDEN – since 1898 exclusive jewellery for the world
Gradually, out of the small workshop, a manufacturing and wholesale company grew into today’s
supplier of hundreds of retail jewellers all over the world. In 1996, the traditional family-owned
company was legally incorporated into a limited company.
The same values that were important to the founding generation in 1898 have continuously helped
to establish Frieden Ltd.: knowledge, high-quality work and customer service. Creative Design is
not only part of our logo, it is our commitment.

FRIEDEN – professional competence in diamonds, precious coloured gemstones and
cultured pearls
All of Frieden’s jewellery is manufactured in 18K yellow- and white gold or in platinum. In the
workshop in Thun, one-of-a-kind pieces are crafted with diamonds in all its colours and shapes,
precious coloured gemstones or cultured pearls for the various collections on the one hand, and
custom-designed pieces are created according to the concepts and requests of clients on the other
hand. The jewellery is reflecting finest Swiss quality and pure craftsmanship.

History
Frieden Ltd. Creative Design – A Passion for Jewellery for almost 120 Years
1898: Thomas Frieden’s grandfather, Emil, founded a workshop in the heart of Switzerland
creating silver jewellery for folk costumes. Emil had a good feeling for design and soon his
creations were highly valued and widely known.
1907: The company was moved to Thun’s historic old town from where Frieden’s creations find
their way to the world markets. At the same time, the magpie was chosen as Frieden’s trademark:
it appears in the company logo, serves to guarantee gold contents in the jewellery and appears in
many unique designs.
1930: Emil’s sons Eugene and William, created the first jewellery designs in 18k gold and started
to do business with the top jewellers in Switzerland.
1954: Willy Frieden, together with seven other jewellery manufacturers, founded the first Swiss
Pavilion at the Watch and Jewellery Show in Basel and started to build up an international
clientele. Today, Frieden is the only founding member still attending the famous Basel World, the
world’s most important watch- and jewellery show.
1970: Thomas Frieden, William’s son, gemmologist G.G. GIA and Expert of the Swiss
Gemmologial Society starts to deal in precious stones and cultured pearls. He personally travels to
gem-mines and pearl farms and builds up important connections in the trade.
1985-1987: Thomas Frieden is president of the Swiss Gemmological Society.
1989: René Lauper, goldsmith and gemmologist G.G. GIA and Expert of the Swiss Gemmological
Society, becomes partner of Thomas Frieden.
Thomas Frieden und René Lauper continuously increase their export business by attending
international jewellery shows (Baselworld, Munich, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Hong Kong).
Their success then, and also today, is based on their selection of materials and their exclusive
designs, skilfully crafted with the highest standards. They are setting trends by launching new eye
catching jewellery collections.
2013/2014: Launching of the Top Collection THOMAS FRIEDEN with the three lines «Feuille
Divine», «Oeil Magique» and «Fleur Céleste»
2014: Entry of the new CEO Markus Lerch.

Dealing in Cultured Pearls and Precious Stones
Direct import of precious materials is an important part of the activities of Frieden Ltd. For more
than 40 years Thomas Frieden and René Lauper, both gemmologists G.G. GIA (Gemological
Institute of America) and Experts of the Swiss Gemmological Society, travel regularly to pearl
farms and gem-mines. Thanks to long established, personal connections to all major production
places Frieden Ltd. is able to offer a broad selection and variety of gem stones and cultured pearls.
Customers benefit of the great know-how, accurate market information and high quality standards.
Cultured Pearls
Thanks to their knowledge and personal connections Frieden Ltd. has become one of the few
important pearl importers of Switzerland and is able to provide a wide selection of all kinds of
cultured pearls such as South Sea, Tahiti, Akoya and Freshwater pearls. These connections can
also provide absolute rarities which normally are hard to find in the pearl market.
Precious Stones
From all over the world, carefully selected by the passionate gemmologists Thomas Frieden, René
Lauper and Jeremy Sawas. Thanks to their experience, know-how, market knowledge and
connections Frieden Ltd. is not only able to offer all kind of high quality gemstones at the right
prices but also to find and offer absolute unique specimens like natural unheated sapphires from
Madagascar. As part owner of the Pink Valley Sapphire Mine Frieden is able to offer these
gemstones at first hand.
