SENIOR CLASS UPDATE 2015 RE: Important Senior Class Events Dear Senior Parents and members of the Class of 2015, As we quickly move through the second semester, the preparations for various senior events, including graduation have begun. Since May of last year, the administration, faculty and senior moderator have looked closely at the following senior related activities and have pursued ways to keep our costs in check and yet make these events successful for all involved. Seniors will need permission forms for the PROM and the GRADBASH trip in order to participate. The cost of senior events is listed in this announcement. The Baccalaureate/Graduation Dinner reservation forms will be sent to you soon. If you have any questions about the payments or deadlines, please contact me. Parents may drop off forms or payments in the main office just make sure you write the event and Mr. Reese on the envelope. Students can also turn in forms, cash or checks to me in room P1. Please be mindful of the various deadlines. I am excited to be working with you during this important and meaningful time at Bishop Verot. Together we can make this another memorable senior year. If you have not ordered your graduation announcements, do so as soon as possible to ensure on-time delivery. Ordering can be done through the Balfour site at www.BALFOUR.com. CAPS AND GOWNS Seniors will receive their caps and gown for graduation in early May. These items come at no additional cost. ACT PRACTICE TEST (grades 9-11) – Tuesday, February 24th No Classes for seniors this day. LIVE JESUS RETREAT – February 26th to March 1st A great way to put things in perspective as high school draws to a close. No student should leave Verot without experiencing a Live Jesus Retreat. SERVICE HOURS DUE – March 2nd All documented service hours are due to the Campus Ministry office by the end of 6th period. Students must have a total of 30 documented hours for the school year at preapproved not for profit service sites. Failure to turn in documented points by the deadline will result in a Saturday detention for each week the hours are not completed. Ultimately, students must do the service hours to graduate. Contact Mr. Burbach if you have any questions. EASTER VACATION – April 2nd to April 12th Classes resume on Monday, April 13th. SENIOR ATHLETIC BANQUET (Hall of Fame) – Wednesday, April 15th (6:00 PM) All senior athletes that received a varsity letter will be guests at a dinner to honor their achievements. Senior athletes will receive an invitation and will attend compliments of the Athletic Booster Club, and should make plans to attend. Parents and guests are also invited to attend; tickets are $25 per person. ACADEMIC SCHOLARS BANQUET – Thursday, April 23rd (6:00pm) The evening will begin with Mass at Resurrection of Our Lord Church at 6:00 PM followed by dinner right after Mass in the Parish Hall to honor students who have achieved Principal’s List 1st , 2nd and 3rd quarter. Invitations will be sent out in March. SENIOR SERVICE DAY – Friday, April 24th (9:00-1:30) All seniors will participate in a day of service and prayer. Students will work at service sites from 9am-noon; have lunch together as a class in Centennial Park in downtown Fort Myers. We will conclude the day with a prayer service. Students will be dismissed when site clean-up is complete. SENIOR/JUNIOR PROM – Saturday, April 25th (8:00 to 11:00pm) Prom will be held downtown at the Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center. Detailed guidelines for the dress codes will be disseminated to the students in February and sent home to parents via e-blast. Tickets will be on sale from April 20th to April 24th during the lunch periods. Tickets cost is $40 each and tickets will not be sold at the door. Universal Grad Bash Senior Trip– Saturday, May 2nd to Sunday, May 3rd Seniors will depart at 3:00pm from the BV school parking lot bound for Universal via charter bus. Students will arrive back at BV at approximately 6:00am on Sunday. The cost for transportation, concert and park admission ticket is $105. Permission slips and money are due to Mr. Reese no later than Tuesday, March 10th. AP EXAMINATIONS – May 4th – May 15th For the exact dates and times of each AP exam see the school calendar or contact Ms. Barbato in guidance. LAST DAY OF CLASSES FOR SENIORS AND CLASS MEETING – Thursday, May 14th Seniors “sign your shirt” dress. There will be a special afternoon assembly with important details and reminders (arrival times, dress code, etc.) for the Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation. All seniors must be present. SENIOR EXAMS AND TEXTBOOK COLLECTION – May 15, 18, 19 Senior Exams are given in the Cafeteria beginning at 7:00am, the schedule of exams will be posted ahead of time. SPELLAMANIA – Wednesday, MAY 20th (1:00pm) Show begins at 1:00 PM in the Nevins Gym. Parents are welcome. Dress Code: Casual, but appropriate. Seniors should plan on arrive at 12:30 PM to get senior seating. MANDATORY GRADUATION PRACTICE – Friday, MAY 22nd (10:00am) All seniors report to the Cafeteria at 10:00 AM for practice. Students must be on-time or they will be issued a work detention following practice. Seniors that do not attend will not participate in graduation. BACCALAUREATE MASS – Friday, MAY 22nd (5:00 pm) The Mass will be held at St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers. Seniors should arrive at the St. John XXIII community room no later than 4:15 PM. Graduates must attend Baccalaureate in order to participate in graduation. (Church address: 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33912) Dress Code for Mass: Men: Dress shoes, dark slacks, dress shirt, tie, no earrings, hair neat, clean-shaven (no sneakers) Ladies: Knee length skirts or dresses, dress shoes (flats or heels). *Graduation Gowns: pressed and ironed. No caps to be worn. BACCALAUREATE/GRADUATION DINNER – Friday, MAY 22nd (6:30pm) The Baccalaureate/Graduation Dinner will be held at Harborside Events Center in Downtown Fort Myers following the Mass. A Baccalaureate/Graduation Dinner Reservation sheet with prices and more detailed information will be sent to you soon. All reservations are due by May 1st . Contact Mr. Reese for all questions or concerns. GRADUATION – MAY 23rd (3:00pm) Doors open to the Nevins Gym at 2:00pm. Seniors should report to the cafeteria by 2:15pm for lineup, dress code check and class photo. Families will receive two (2) reserved floor tickets for graduation. Additional seating is available in the bleachers on a first come, first served basis. There is not a limit to the number of guest per family, but seats other than the reserved floor seats are first come, first serve. An online form for wheelchair access seating requests and handicap parking will be available in May. Dress Code for Graduation: Men: Dress shoes, dark slacks, dress shirt, tie, no earrings, hair neat, clean-shaven Ladies: Modest dresses or skirts, dress shoes (flats, preferably). Graduation Gowns: pressed and ironed. Caps will be worn. VALHALLA (PROJECT GRADUATION) – MAY 23rd (night) This event is sponsored, organized, and supervised by senior parent volunteers and is not a Bishop Verot sanctioned event. This all night party treats graduates to entertainment, activities, refreshments, and farewell festivities while offering a memorable, alcohol and drug free celebration for the final gathering of the Class of 2015. Additional information will be released from senior parents.
