(Larkspur, CA) – Boasting a legacy of over 8,000 attendees, Earth Day Marin 2014 “Festival and Day of Action on Sustainability Solutions” boasts exciting new partnerships and sponsors and a significant expansion of entertainment and educational programming for attendees of all ages. Scheduled for Sunday, April 6th from 11-5pm at Redwood High School at 395 Doherty Drive in Larkspur, the free event will feature top-tier musicians, films, inspiring speakers, hands-on activities and delicious organic food. Nationally known online radio host Diana Dehm of Sustainability News & Entertainment Radio and the “Trash on Your Back 5-Day Challenge” will be the main stage MC. "Earth Day Marin Festival & Day of Action is an entertaining free indoor and outdoor event filled with music and fun where you can efficiently and effectively take action on the pressing issues of the day, such as drought and climate change,” says Event Director Hannah Doress. “Most of us are so busy it is hard to even figure out what we can do -- and we never have enough time to relax and have fun with friends and family – at Earth Day Marin you can do both!” As a “Day of Action,” a variety of environmental actions will be promoted, including: water conservation activities sponsored by the Marin Municipal Water District; signing up for 100% Deep Green Energy with Marin Clean Energy; joining Resilient Neighborhoods and going on a 5,000 pound carbon diet; signing up for home sustainability evaluations; joining letter writing campaigns, and much more. For every action an attendee takes, they will receive a free raffle ticket for drawings throughout the day. Hannah Doress Events developed the “Day of Action” framework for the 2013 Earth Day Marin event – hundreds of actions were documented and many more taken, including letter writing on climate change, pledges to buy EV vehicles, solar assessment and home efficiency appointments, bookmarking real time transit information, joining Resilient Neighborhoods, and many more. The entertainment-packed day includes such high-quality musicians as Swiss rising star Sareena Overwater and the SF Irish Music Festival favorite Lucia Comnes (called “a singular voice” by the San Francisco Chronicle), and Tim Cain, former Sons of Champlin band member and children’s music star. Americana/Jam Festival favorite Alice DiMicele (as seen with Joan Baez, David Grisman and Arlo Guthrie) will be the featured artist for the 2pm water rally presented by Marin Municipal Water District. She will invite attendees to sing her classic water conservation song “Made Out of Water,” and will perform on the main stage. Finalists from the Green Songwriting contest will be co-presented by West Coast Songwriters and Sustainable News and Entertainment Radio. The songwriting contest is open to adults and youth and has an entry deadline of March 31st. Prizes include 8 hours at the legendary Fantasy Studios. This year’s inspiring speakers include: climate visionary John Wick of Marin Carbon Project; the coauthor of Sustainable [R]evolution, Juliana Birnbaum; Marin Municipal Water District Board President Armando Quintero; Marin Organic Executive Director Jeffrey Westman; and climate change expert Dr. Peter G. Joseph of Climate Reality Project and Citizen’s Climate Lobby. A county-wide forum will be held on the growing impact of sea level Earth Day Marin | Hannah Doress Events 1 rise and flooding on our shoreline, hosted by Shore Up Marin - a coalition founded by Earth Day Marin, Canal Welcome Center, GreenUp Learning and Marin Grassroots. MMWD will co-present The Invisible Peak, a documentary about Mt. Tam by Gary Yost and narrated by Peter Coyote, will be screened, along with other short films. Hands-on activities and puppet shows will keep kids entertained. 350 Marin will present a series of award-winning storytellers for children and adults. “Marin Earth Authors” will read from their books, such as Terri Glass, Raymond Welch, Mary Reynolds Thompson, and William Carney.
