Philosophical Walks: Exercising body and mind. Historic landscapes and stunning views ... the sense of well-being that comes from being outdoors ... being with nature ... There can be few people unmoved by The Great Outdoors. But what of the thoughts, questions and feelings – many of which can be described as ‘deep’ – that these experiences generate? How might we embrace and learn from them? Philosophical Walks takes that most fundamental human movement – walking – and couples it with an opportunity to take part in a Community of Enquiry with your fellow walkers. First, we will go for a good walk in some beautiful countryside. Afterwards, we’ll return to a comfortable place for some refreshment. As our bodies rest, we will draw upon the extraordinary potential of the outdoors to stimulate thinking. Working in a Caring, Collaborative, Creative and Critical way (the ‘4 Cs’ of Community of Enquiry), we’ll pursue new insights about the world in which we live and work. Philosophical Walks will appeal to individuals who wish to come together with others, and existing groups (such as those who work together) who want to develop new insights, both for pleasure and purpose. So you can join with others, or come as a group (which makes Philosophical Walks ideal for team development also). Philosophical Walks are led and facilitated by Graeme Tiffany. Graeme is a fully qualified and highly experienced Mountain Leader. He is a pioneer of Community Philosophy, a national initiative influenced by his training with SAPERE (the Society for the Advancement of Philosophical Enquiry and Reflection in Education). As a professional informal, community and outdoor educator, Graeme also has many years’ experience of facilitating learning through group discussions. So why not join Graeme on a Philosophical Walk? You'll be in good company and safe hands, both in body and mind. Future dates: Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2013, in conjunction with the Yorkshire Dales Outdoors Festival: http://www.yorkshiredalesoutdoorsfestival.com, in Wensleydale.
