We are National Contracting: Superior Civil Engineers 3. History The UAE's history of the past fifty years has never been quiet. Infrastructure building and civil engineering projects of ever-greater size and complexity have continued to arise. When National Contracting – or the National Contracting and Transportation Company was first suggested in the early 1960s – this growth was only just beginning. It was clear though to the company founders that sudden growth in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, along with the other Northern Emirates was imminent. In 1965, the decision was made, and National Contracting was born in Sharjah. Immediately the company acquired road and infrastructure projects that would set the stage for its phenomenal later growth. The history of National Contracting has mirrored that of the UAE: vision fuelled by a desire to make the country the pride of the region and the envy of its competitors across the GCC. Thanks to the vision of the founders, the wise policies of its rulers, and the careful management of our team, National Contracting today sits rightfully at the apex of our industry, with a record to be proud of, and the projects to prove it. 4. CEO's Message The year 1965 was a watershed year for many reasons for the people of the UAE. Although still on the cusp of announcing independence, the vision and desire of our nation to create a modern state with world-leading infrastructure was already in process. This is why we established National Contracting. It was to be a company that not only provided the people and the country with the best solutions to our infrastructural needs, but did so with a desire to give back further through investment in the best people and the best ways of doing business. We have never lost sight of this ideal. It is what continues to inspire us over fifty years later, and I am sure, what will inspire us into the next generation of young Emiratis to whom we hand on the baton of responsibility for our collective future. Today, we are an industry-leading company with investments in our supply-chain; our technology and our people that ensure that whatever construction, civil engineering, drainage or other related project you need, you will find the best solution at National Contracting. Today, we take on and succeed with mega projects that would have been unthinkable a generation ago. We look forward hopefully, trusting in our ability and in our capacity to make greater strides forward in the future, both here in the UAE and across the wider region, to ensure that wherever we work, we will deliver a result that pleases everyone. We look forward to working with you. MrAbdullah Mohammed Sharif Zaman, CEO National Contracting 5. National Contracting is a national industry leader, and so no matter what size your project is, with our specialist teams of industry professionals, we are here to see it through from planning to delivery. Road Construction and Paving Today, more than ever, there is a huge demand for new arterial and interior roads as a growing population seeks new demands from infrastructure planning. National Contracting has built a reputation of trust based on our key tenet of 'quality in time'. This ability to create new roads and paving structures that pass the most strenuous tests of durability is why we have become one of the most popular infrastructure companies in the region. Our experience as road constructors is second-to-none as we deal constantly with the changing demands of planning as well as our expertise in laying all types of roads and pavements. Some of these include subgrade formations, granular and wet-mix road base, Dense Bitumen Macadam (DBM), Asphaltic Concrete (AC), and hydraulically-pressed concrete tiles or interlock. National Contracting has additionally expanded into the manufacturing of asphalt and concrete through our own plants in Al Sajaa, Sharjah. By reducing our supply chain, we are now better than ever able to guarantee levels of product quality to which you have become accustomed. Our products and construction expertise are now common sights both within the Emirate of Sharjah, and in the wider UAE, whether they are major national roads, commercial sites, or small local road networks. Every project we have completed bears the hallmark of our expertise with the highly-technical approach we bring, and the levels of quality and safety we ensure are always preeminent. National Contracting is a byword for quality. Bridge and Tunnel Construction In an modern urban landscape both bridges and tunnels are essential elements to any road plan. At National Contracting we have been building the country's bridges for over two generations. With the advent of rail projects in the Middle East we are now advancing the range and scope of our civil engineering feats. Using a variety of materials and methods; looking at distance, traffic type, and the particular environmental requirements of the region, we have been involved with the building of bridges for pedestrians, vehicles and, lately, rail - all in some of the most exposed locations to be found anywhere on earth. We are specialists in foundation works, steel erecting, working with pre-cast concrete, and box girders amongst many materials and methodologies. All of this is done with specialist crews with a long history of this kind of work for a variety of clients. We have a depth of knowledge and experience in bridges of all kinds, including beam, suspension, arch, cantilever and post-tension designs. Thanks to our management team we are able to take on projects of all sizes right through to megaproject parameters. For both bridging and tunnel work, National Contracting are the last word. Rail Construction National Contracting has always been part of the growth that characterises the UAE's advance towards the future. As part of this drive, the UAE has committed to developing a freight and passenger rail network for the country and the wider region. The first phase of this is currently undergoing construction. National Contracting, thanks to its background is taking an active part in this growth, both where and across the Gulf through participation in this rail expansion. In partnership with Kuedo Rail Construction of South Korea, National Contracting is utilising its supply chain to help in the design and development of the GCC rail network. The experience we have gained in a variety of projects connected to light rail, tram and metro superstructure building and maintenance allows us to assist new clients with related future projects. We are able to assist in track design, reinforced concrete plant assistance, part manufacturing, and the production, laying and maintenance of the rail superstructure. National Contracting is helping to lay the foundations of tomorrow's rail services, today. Drainage Even in a country with desert conditions such as the UAE, there is a need for world-class drainage systems. Due to irregular yearly precipitation and the formation of wadis in the winter months, there is a real need for effective drainage, especially when connected to the road system. For fifty years, National Contracting has been at the forefront of drainage technology and implementation, covering the UAE's main highways and local roads. With a massive team of specialists, National Contracting has the assets and the reach to be able to deal with any or all elements of a fully-effective drainage system, no matter where it is located. National Contracting has been responsible for some of the largest and most technically demanding if these across the UAE and beyond. We can easily and effectively deal with issues that relate to storm water drains and drainage, effluent lines, pumping stations and rising mains. Whatever your drainage need, National Contracting can help you. Structures Although National Contracting is renowned for its heavy civil horizontal contacting, we have also been responsible for the construction and maintenance of large numbers of residential, commercial and educational buildings across the country. With a reputation for providing only the best in both products and in-the-field services, National Contracting decided many years ago that an expansion of our building department was the natural extension of our civil engineering prowess. Today, National Contracting is one of the region's leaders in building both low and high-rise and commercial developments including offices and factories, low and high-rise residential complexes of all kinds, as well as public buildings such as stadiums and sport complexes. AT National Contracting, our teams of specialist engineers and developers have created systems that allow for speedy design and construction, and a delivery process that is always on-time and in-budget. National Contracting is building the future in every direction. - National Contracting Projects Unlike iconic buildings such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi, even the largest civil engineering feats are camouflaged by the environment in which they are found. National Contracting is responsible for the creation of the major works, although they are unlikely to be seen except for those who know enough or care enough to look. These projects are unsurpassed in their execution and their importance, and are gathered here for you to see what great things often go unnoticed. Featured Project: R449 - Al Khezammia and Talaa Roads and Drainage The Client Sharjah Municipality is an integrated body within the Government of Sharjah that serves everyone living in the Emirate of Sharjah in the UAE. The AED260m contract was for construction of the new Al Khezammia and Talaa roads. The Problem With Sharjah's continuing growth, the need to modernise the Emirate's travel infrastructure is a continually evolving process. This project is one small part of that enormous process. This project required the construction of 35kms of new roads, and a solution that would be able to satisfy Sharjah Government's exacting quality standards. The project was time sensitive: with traffic projections indicating any delays in the project could cause unnecessary delay and inconvenience to motorists, and affect Sharjah's future plans detrimentally. The Solution Working closely with Halcrow between 2007 and 2009, National Contracting devised a plan which drew on the expertise of their engineering and planning professionals to build to the specified level of quality within the allotted timeframe. National Contracting created 35kms of new, single-carriageway roads and pavements along with all the parking amenities specified. Given high-levels of winter season rain, National Contracting built surface water and sewerage drainage that is easily able to deal with these seasonal changes, as well as the irrigation and water-supply networks that Sharjah Municipality operates to green urban areas and keep residents with a constant supply of potable water. In addition, National Contracting ensured all existing and new generation Etisalat and Sharjah Electricity and Gas' ducting and cabling were in place and easily accessible for future requirements. The Benefits Sharjah's new roads are now able to handle a significantly higher traffic volume, and with surfaces and underground amenities that meet all current and foreseeable future requirements. The Client's Response Sharjah Municipality were delighted with the results, and that all quality requirements had at least been matched, while still completing the project in the allotted timescale. Other Projects R471 – Maliha Roads National Contracting‘s successful bid for Sharjah Municipality's AED404m Maliha roads contract was successfully completed between 2008 and 20XX, with Halcrow International acting as chief consultant. The main road in question was the King Abdul-Aziz Road - a dual three-lane free-flow arterial highway which runs through Sharjah city centre extending from Layyah to the Kalba Road. This project was divided in five packages, of which this section is number two. Section number two required the construction of three grade-separated interchanges. These comprised a bridge over Greenbelt Road at junction 16B with a signal junction; a new grade-separated cloverleaf interchange at Junction 15B with Wasit Road, and with adjacent slip and service roads; a bridge over Third Industrial Road at junction 55A. The road itself required 4.3 kilometres of dual-carriageway with service roads and parking on both sides. Working within a congested urban locale, National Contracting was required to take major traffic-management measures, employ some relocation and protection of existing services, and lay new major and minor services. Work was completed on time and to the satisfaction of Sharjah Government, with the project finally being handed over in 20XX. R71 – Improvement of the Fifth Industrial Intersection, Sharjah (Emirates Road), Phase One National Contracting’s won the Ministry of Public Works' contract, valued at AED65m, and successfully completed the project between 2010 and 2011, with Parsons Overseas Limited acting as chief consultant. Part of the Ministry's Emirates Road (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) improvement programme, phase 1 required the widening of the carriageway from three to six lanes in each direction, and with additional slip and service roads. The scope also included improvements to Fourth Industrial Square, including the creation of a four-way signalled intersection, and the relocation, protection, and provision of all water lines along with other utility services including gas and electricity and lines. The project was completed on time and was approved by the ministry with handover taking place on schedule in 2011. R249B – Al Mudeaifi Internal Roads, Khorfakkan, Sharjah National Contracting’s won the Sharjah Government contract for this internal roads project, valued at in excess of AED 139m and successfully completed the project between 2010 and 2012, with XXXX acting as chief consultant. This road project was part of Sharjah Government's improvement schedule for roads in the outlying parts of Sharjah Emirate. The creation of the new roads included construction and surface laying as well as the relocation, protection, and provision of utility lines for water, gas and electricity for all the neighbouring residential area. The road-construction process also required the setting of new paving for pedestrians and parking and walking areas for the whole area. The project was completed on time and was handed over to Sharjah Government following their approval, on schedule in 2012. Infrastructure Development of Block E1 (Plot 970, Muweilah Commercial Area) National Contracting’s won Tatweer Real Estate's contract for E1 block development project for the Muweilah Commercial Area in Sharjah city, and which valued at AED 41m. The whole project was successfully completed between 2011 and 2012 with Khatib and Alami acting as chief consultant. This project was for the creation of a plot for commercial building for the Tatweer Group. The scope required the development of the local infrastructure using earthworks. All utility pipe work for water, gas and electricity were laid and the access and internal road system built in tandem. Full Etisalat functionality was also installed, as well as storm water drains up to the formation level so the plot would be ready for the construction of the planned commercial property on the site. The project was completed on time and was handed over to Tatweer Real Estate following their approval, on schedule in 2012. R479 - Wasit Road Improvement National Contracting’s won Sharjah Municipality’s contract for the R479 Wasit Road Improvement project in Sharjah city, and which valued at AED 140m. The whole project was successfully completed between 2008 and 2010 with Halcrow International acting as chief consultant. This Project required the widening of Wasit Road from its former two-lane dual-carriageway to a three-lane format, in addition to the associated slip and service roads. The section focused on was the stretch between the Halwan Interchange with Dhaid Road, and the Wasit Power Station interchange with the Sharjah Ring Road (Now Emirates Road). As part of the project, Roundabout 50 was replaced with a grade-separated interchange that had a two-span dual two-lane flyover. The flyover was constructed using a posttensioned reinforced concrete box girder method, and the approaches took advantage of a proprietary reinforced earth-retaining wall-system. A section of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi Road was realigned on the approaches to the bridge adjacent to the associated slip roads. In addition to this, a service road with attached parking and a new roundabout was built between Roundabout 50 and Roundabout 58. The project was completed on time and was handed over to Sharjah Municipality following their approval, on schedule in 2010.
