Our Lady of the Rosary School Newsletter May 14, 2014 Christ Be Our Light Gospel Value: Compassion In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 Dear OLR Families, This past weekend we celebrated all mothers. A mother truly is someone who loves unconditionally and places the needs of her children above her own, not only with words but also with her actions. All mothers who wish to be true to this high calling can look to the woman who became the greatest model of motherhood. . . Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary’s divine motherhood is based on the teachings of the Gospels. Born into humble surroundings, she was called by God to be the mother of the Son of God. She affirmed her obedience to the call of God and lived out her vocation throughout her entire life. While she is not our mother in the physical sense, she is referred to as our mother because she nurtures all of our spiritual lives and teaches us the real meaning of unconditional love. Mary, the mother of Jesus, our Blessed Mother, is the true model of motherhood. We will be celebrating Mary, our compassionate mother, during the entire month of May. Please join us as we proclaim our love for Mary when we take part in the Living Rosary on Thursday, May 22 at 2:15 p.m. Our annual Jog-a-Thon was a huge success and great fun for all who participated in this event. Thank you to our 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Casqueiro, and her enthusiastic students for coordinating this event. We also thank all of our parents who donated food items, sponsored our joggers, and who generously volunteered their time to help out. Thank you! Counting the days until summer? Ready for a break? You can win a Carnival Cruise for two! Over the next two weeks we will be selling raffle tickets for a four-day cruise to the Bahamas or to Baja Mexico. Tickets are $10 each. We will send home tickets in today’s family envelope. Additional tickets are available for sale in the School Office and after all masses over the next two weekends. Please either purchase or sell these raffle tickets and get the chance to enjoy a fabulous vacation. Your child’s teacher will also be auctioning off an auction item created with love by each individual student in the class. Please see the attached listing of each class auction project and make your bid today! All proceeds from these auction items and raffles will go directly to the purchase of new classroom white boards for our school. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Finally, we are pleased to announce that our CLC After School program has been funded for the next five years! We sincerely appreciate your patience and support while we waited for the news. We also thank you for your prayers for this positive news. God certainly continues to bless us each day.
