E-Waste Recycling Law in the State of Illinois
Effective January 1, 2012 a new law in the state of Illinois banned several types of electronics
from being dumped at a landfill. The law establishes a statewide system for recycling and/or
reusing computers, monitors, televisions, and printers discarded from residences by requiring
electronic manufacturers to participate in the management of discarded and unwanted electronic
products.
The following list of electronics is banned from landfills:
Televisions
Monitors
Printers
Computers (including tablet computers)
Electronic Keyboards
Facsimile Machines
Videocassette Recorders
Portable Digital Music Players
Digital Video Disc Players
Video Game Consoles
Small Scale Servers
Scanners
Electronic Mice
Digital Converter Boxes
Cable Receivers
Satellite Receivers
Digital Video Disc Recorders
Some of the companies will offer pick-up service, or offer a central drop-off site. Phone
the specific company for more information on how to dispose of your electronic waste; or
contact your county or municipal government.
