Greek & Roman Achievements in the Modern World Project

You have been selected to serve on the prestigious Caesarian Committee to honor an important

Greek or Roman achievement and its contribution to the modern world. You have one vote on this committee and need to persuade your fellow committee members with your eloquent and persuasive writing, powerful visuals and creative model.

The committee requires the following in order to consider your selection:

1) A poster

2) A QR code, connected with a website and video

3) A 3-D model

4) Research notes printed off noodletools

5) Your presentation

Poster Guidelines

**For each element, clearly label with appropriate headings. For example: Identification: or How it was invented: **

For the Ancient Achievement: o Identification of whether it is a Greek or Roman achievement o Description of the achievement (what it was made of, how big or long it was) o How it was invented (or improved upon) and who created it o What its uses and benefits were to the ancient people o Visuals

For the Modern Connection: o Description of the achievement (what it was made of, how big or long it was) o How it has been improved upon and who has improved it o What its uses and benefits are to modern people o Visuals

General Requirements: o Creative title that will “catch the eye” of committee members and overall creativity, making the poster appealing to the eye and easy to read. o A personal thoughts paragraph (IMPORTANT!) that includes your argument on why this is the most important achievement and contribution to the world. Be sure to be very persuasive here! o Written parts must be typed o Visuals in color, and appropriate to content o QR code clearly displayed on the poster and tested to ensure it works

QR Code/Website Guidelines

o Creative title o Video of you, explaining why your achievement is the best (see personal thoughts paragraph above). The video must be exciting! Remember strong presentation and persuasion elements. You may be funny and dress up if you’d like o Images, of both ancient and modern achievement o Creativity! You may include other websites/resources/ effects. Make it exciting! o QR Code included on the poster so viewers may easily scan o Testing of code to ensure it works

3-D Model Guidelines

You must create a 3-D model of your achievement using materials from scratch. These can be any materials (paper mache, tinfoil, cardboard, wood, clay, Styrofoam, tin, pipe cleaners, yarn, cork, etc.).

Please do not use pre-made, or pre-fabricated items as you need to show creativity here. For example, something made entirely of legos would not receive the same grade as something created from scratch using clay or cardboard.

In addition, try to make your model interactive! Maybe people can touch/ do something.

Research Guidelines

You must submit the noodletools research notes for your project. These need to include a minimum of

(2) two different respectable and appropriate sources. Each noodlebib entry must have all sections completed (quotes, paraphrasing, and notes).

Websites have been selected for you. Please go to Ms. Goulet’s webpage, under Social Studies

Resources. The links are at the bottom of the page. Do NOT search randomly on google for your research unless you have specific permission from a teacher.

Presentation Guidelines

You will present your work to your fellow selection committee members where you will be expected to be able to fully answer any questions on your topic and its usefulness to the ancient and modern world. For this final presentation and project, make it something fun and enjoyable for both yourself, and your committee members. 

Votes will be cast for the most persuasive and creative presentation, poster, QR/website and

3-D model. The winners will be recognized by faculty and peers at our awards ceremony.

Important Notes: This project will take both class time and homework time. I have allotted for at least

12 class periods for you to work on the project, but there are several parts involved. It is your responsibility to plan ahead and make sure you are keeping up with deadlines. You can always move forward before we get to the next phase, but should always have something to work on as well, even if it is improvement and practice. If you need help, ask early and ask often. I am more than happy to help at lunch and after school if needed. If you do not have the appropriate materials due for the day, please be ready to stay that day at lunch and/or after school.

Also, creativity is a big element in this project. Feel free to make it your own by adding costumes, interactive displays, humor, and other appropriate, fun ideas. Enjoy! 
