PRIOR TO START of Training
Ensure teachers have access to the COS Introduction Module at
http://olms.cte.jhu.edu/olms2/rdr/cosintroduction . (No login is required to
access the module.)
Provide teachers with time to review and complete the module.
AT THE START of Training
Verify teachers completed the online introduction module. Teachers should
bring documentation from module site. Documentation can be accessed in the
module by teachers under COS Rating Overview, and then Module Completion.
Share the Teacher Early Learning Community (ELC) Access Handout and ensure
all teachers enroll in the online COS site.
Review the Training Assessment tab in the Teacher ELC which includes links to a
pre-assessment, a post-assessment, and a training simulation.
Administer the COS Pre-Assessment accessed in the Teacher ELC under Training
Assessment, and then COS Pre-Assessment and Post Assessment. Teachers need
to click on the Pre-Assessment link on that page.
DURING the Training
Complete training content, Why We Measure Outcomes.
Complete training content, Focus on Functionality.
Complete training content, Content of the Three Early Childhood Outcomes.
Complete training content, Established Age-expectations.
Complete training content, Child Outcomes Summary (COS) Rating Scale.
Provide opportunities to review and practice (e.g., complete the Alyssa case
study with teachers).
Complete training content, Including Families.
Complete training content, Integrating COS into the IEP Process.
Walk teachers through the online resources in the Teacher ELC.
Direct teachers toward content resources and technology support resources
that can be accessed after the training.
Administer post-assessment activities to all teachers in the training:
 Part 1: COS Post-Assessment - teachers complete multiple choice
assessment independently
 Part 2: COS Study/Simulation - teachers complete independently and submit
scores, then review as a group
FOLLOWING the Training
Request that teachers complete the Teacher Training Evaluation Survey. Send
teachers a follow up reminder to complete the survey.
Complete the Trainer Survey to evaluate the training from your perspective as a
trainer.
Provide follow up support/coaching to teachers as needed and based on teacher
performance on the COS Post-Assessment.
Please note: If this training is offered in a blended or online format, your school system must request a
community exchange site (request information located in the trainer community) at least one week prior to your
training. Then, you will need to follow the directions in the Online Facilitation Guide that will be provided. This
guide includes instructions to set up and facilitate your site. Participating teachers will also need specific
instructions for how to verify their completion of the online activities.
