APRIL 20, 2014
EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
ACTS 10:3A, 37-43 COL 3:1-4 OR 1 COR 5:6B-8 JN 20:1-9
(42) OR MT 28:1-10 (41) OR AT AN AFTERNOON OR
EVENING MASS, LK 24:13-35 (46)
“She sas that the stone had been moved away, so she ran
off to Simon Peter and the other disciple (the one Jesus
loved) and told them: ‘The Lord has been taken from the
tomb! We don’t know where they have put him!’”
One may choose whatever resurrection and Easter account
offers the most profound meaning. The gospels paint clear
pictures of people running, men speaking, frantic worry,
angels of the Lord reassuring, searching and entering the
burial site. Surely the reaction of all concerned was deeply
personal and moving.
Like Mary, the two apostles, the Emmaus road disciples, we
come to live the resurrection experience. Recalling the
scripture accounts we move from sadness and doubt to joy
and happiness. With others we too go in search of the Risen
One. With the eyes of faith, we discover the living Christ
among us, revealing Himself in the events of our own time.
Easter people take the events of Jerusalem and bring them to
life today, announcing the good news not of an empty tomb,
but of the living Christ in our midst. I spread the good news
as I show concern for someone saddened by sickness or
family problems. I announce the message of a Risen Christ
found in the celebration of the Eucharist with the signs of
living water, strengthening oil, a brilliant blest Paschal
candle, and aromatic incense telling me of something
special, that Christ lives and I too will rise with Him.
CARDINAL’S APPEAL
To date our parish has received $71,455 in pledges/gifts
toward the 2014 Cardinal’s Appeal, from 168 families. For
this Appeal to be truly successful, we must have the support
of all of our families. The Appeal is a vital source of funding
for the programs and ministries that sustain the parishes
across our Archdiocese. It is not too late to make your gift.
We just need $1,045 to reach our goal. Please be as generous
as you can. Thank you for your kind support.
PAX CHRISTI METRO NEW YORK
The Mystery of Easter is upon us once again. It is a beautiful
Mystery, but still a Mystery. If you read all the Gospels,
you’ll see that the story varies from one Evangelist to
another. But at the heart of them all is Jesus Resurrected!
Triumph over injustice, torture, and death. Triumph over
darkness and despair. Triumph over unthinkable violence.
And after such pain and suffering, what is the message?
Peace! Forgiveness! Go, do likewise! This Easter may we
have the faith, hope, and love to do just that: to be Light in
the darkness, Hope where there is despair; Peace where there
is violence; and Mercy where there is condemnation.
Happy Easter from Pax Christi Metro New York!
EASTER BRUNCH
Please join us for a joyous brunch celebration next Sunday,
April 27 in Casserly Hall after the 11:30 Mass. Join us in
rejoicing the Risen Christ with fellow parishioners. There
will be a suggested donation of $15 dollars for anyone who
would like to attend to help defray costs. Hope to see you
there!
The meaning of this day is found in the repetition of one
word ‘Alleluia, Alleluia.’

A Blessed Easter to each of you. In these past days we have
once again celebrated the mystery of our salvation. This
mystery of the enormous love of God for us is once again
shown in giving his Son to us, his death in reparation for our
sins and that of the whole world, and his resurrection from
the dead whose victory is shared with us in Baptism.
Special thanks must be given to Joe Brown, for preparing
our RCIA candidates and so much more, to Michael
Mongiello for the flower arrangements, to Jin Krista and
Eliza Poehlman for their musical labor and to Hector
Jimenez for the beautiful programs. And to ALL those who
helped make the liturgy so engaging and meaningful.
