3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
What asset (s) do you intend to protect/enhance?
Example: Shoal Point beach covers nearly four kilometres of coastline from Reliance Creek to the Shoal Point rocks. The dunes
from Shoal Point to Shoal Point rocks retain a significant proportion of remnant vegetation, including over three hectares of
microphyll vine forest on coastal dunes (RE 8.2.2 ‘beach scrub’), which is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ under the EPBC Act.
Beach scrub ecosystems are considered to provide habitat for the listed northern quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus), rusty monitor
(Varanus semiremex), and coastal sheathtail bat (Taphozous australis)
Provide response here:
What are the threats facing the asset(s)?
Describe the process and issues causing damage to, or problems for, the asset(s).
Example: Inappropriate access and weed invasion are reducing the condition of this community and mown parklands border the
beach scrub community in part, preventing expansion of the scrub through natural regeneration.
Provide response here:
Describe the activities you intend to undertake to address the treats and protect the asset(s)
Example: Define park boundaries and revegetate outside of this to supplement remnant revegetation and return shrub layer.
Undertake weed management within the reserve areas and revegetate to replace removed weed species, assist dune
stabilisation, and supplement coastal vegetation along frontal dune. Educate coastal community on local weed species and
promote the use of local native species in residential gardens.
Provide response here:
Describe the specific aim/outcome of the project
Example: this project will focus on increasing the quality of two patches of remnant vegetation (approximately 2ha) in the Shoal
Point reserve
