Enrollment Screening
Every guest admitted to the Inn at Animal Hospital of Old Saybrook, must first undergo an
enrollment screening to evaluate his/her social skills for the safety of all guests and staff. If a guest
is found not to be an ideal candidate for socialization, suggestions will be made from the staff on
how to proceed. The staff will continue to evaluate each guest to observe any behavior changes
over time. Should a guest become aggressive towards other guests or staff, they will be removed
from social situations and further training may be suggested.
Medical Conditions:
Pets with chronic and stable illness are welcome as guests. You must inform us of your pet's
condition and we may require medical records from your veterinarian. Pets with an unstable
disease can only be considered after a physical exam by one of our doctors and will incur
additional charges for hospitalization/observation if there is a need for an increased level of care.
Internal/External Parasites
Please remember that parasites are a health hazard to your pet as well as to humans. We will alert
you to the presence of fleas and ticks on your pet, as they can quickly invade your home, making
eradication difficult. If necessary, guests will be treated with Comfortis, an oral flea preventative for
a fee. Additionally we will apply a topical flea and tick treatment called Vectra 3D to dogs and
Revolution for cats. These products are available for purchase from our hospital. Accepted over the
counter products include Advantix (dogs)
Age and Sex
All guests may be admitted after they are 4 months old. We recommend that all guests over 6
months of age be spayed or neutered. Guests that are intact (and over 6 months old) will be
able to enjoy our Day Stay accommodations, but will not be entering our play groups. When
admitted for the day, these guests may stay in a private room. One-on-one unleashed playtime
with a staff member is included in our Day Stay rates. We do not board pets unless they
are 4 months old. All pets must have completed their vaccine series and be in
compliance with AAHA vaccination protocols.
Personal Belongings
The Inn provides bedding, bowls, and toys for our overnight guests. If you wish to bring some of
your pet’s belongings, please understand that Animal Hospital of Old Saybrook Inn will not be
responsible for any lost or damaged items. For the safety of your pet, all outside toys will be
subject to approval.
Food and Medication
As many dogs are sensitive to dietary changes, we encourage owners to bring their pet’s own
food. We ask that you bring enough food for your pet’s entire stay. If you choose not to bring
your pet’s food or if you forget, we will provide Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat food as it is
a diet that is well tolerated by most dogs. All prescription medications must be presented in their
original bottles. We cannot accept loose pills or pills put in food bags. Medications will be given for
an additional charge.
Complimentary Bath
A complimentary cleansing bath, pedicure, and ear cleaning will be performed on pets staying 5
or more days. This is a basic bath, does not include grooming services. Grooming services may be
added on for an additional fee. Please advise the staff of this request.
Holiday Reservations
We encourage guests to make holiday reservations early as demand is high. We ask for 7 days
