SUBJ: Minutes, Sonnenschein Region Board of Directors Meeting of August 1, 2015
The Sonnenschein Region BoD meeting was held at Nick's Boathouse restaurant in Pensacola
and chaired by Wally Lindenmuth. Attendees were:
Keith Boring
Bob Langham
Pete Mellin
Roger Gilmore
Wally Lindenmuth
Stephen Pearce
1. Reading of Minutes. Wally opened the meeting by having Pete read minutes from the
previous board meeting of April 8, 2015. The following topics arose from the reading of the
minutes.
2. Sonnenschein Ball Caps. Keith has sold nine ball caps so far, at $15 each, and turned those
funds over to our Treasurer for deposit in our checking account ($135).
3. Treasurer Report.
 Pete reported that our balance as of August 1 was $6084.69.
 Our large expenses since the last report were: club items mentioned in the April minutes
($888), ball caps ($310), auto-cross expenses ($405), and the Hemingway's lunch $(724).
 Our income during this period was the Pace High School auto-cross ($420) and our
quarterly rebate from PCA ($620).
4. Autocross Update. Since our A-X at Pace High School went well and netted the club $420 we
will try to schedule another one. October 17th is our choice and Stephen will coordinate with
the school.
5. Nametags. Pete reported the results of his research on this (cost, colors, and design).
Stephen then showed an electronic image of the Florida Crown Region (Jacksonville area)
design, which looked much better than what Pete had found. This design has the region logo on
the left, with member name slightly on the right, and club position underneath. Stephen and
Keith will investigate these. We discussed having the club buy nametags for board members
(currently seven of us), and nametags would be available to everyone else (general members
and affiliates) for individual purchase. Cost is to be determined.
6. Saturday Cars and Coffee. Wally reported the July event at Dean McCrary Porsche of Mobile
was attended by lots of Corvette and BMW owners, but only four Porsche owners, which was a
little embarrassing. Sonnenschein folks are encouraged to attend these, on the first Saturday of
each quarter (January, April, and October) at the dealership. Wally presented our appreciation
plaque to Dean's. Wally reported a cars and coffee was held in our Mississippi area and he will
contact David Wilson (Mississippi area coordinator) for a report and possibly a newsletter
article.
7. Website Update. Our website placed third in the PCA Website competition. We would have
placed second if not for the judges overlooking our several icons to access ClubRegistration for
our events. Congratulations to Keith for another great website year!
8. Technical Session. Mike Jordan of Daphne (he owns the white GT3 seen at our autocrosses)
has agreed to host a tech session for us. Additionally, Roger will contact Douglas of AutoCheck
in Pensacola to see if he can also host one. Dates for these events have not yet been set. Topics
could include oil changes, brake pad changes, brake fluid flush, and various owner-maintenance
topics.
9. Newsletter Update. Our members are not supporting our newsletter. Other than board
members, Roger has not received a single article from our members. We know we have some
excellent writers out there, so please send us your articles! In the next newsletter Roger will
explain the trials and tribulations of entering our newsletter in the national competition.
10. Membership Update. Stephen Pearce reported that for the past month we had 1 new
member, 1 member transfer to another region, 3 non-renews, and 7 renewals. Our member
numbers are 141 primary and 76 affiliate members for a total of 217 members. Nationally PCA
has 71,338 primary members and 42,469 affiliate members.
11. Mobile Street Rod Club using our Auto-Cross Gear. We have not heard anything more on
this matter, so it is closed.
12. Club Trailer. Our club trailer exterior refurbishment is complete and the trailer looks great.
Our thanks to Dean McCrary Porsche of Mobile for funding this project, and to Dale Dunniho of
Intelligent Design in Mobile for doing the work.
13. Christmas Luncheon. We are planning a 2015 Christmas luncheon buffet at the Grand Hotel
in Point Clear, AL, just like we did in 2014. Date and details TBA.
14. Street Survivor Course. This is a driving skills course designed primarily for teenagers. We
have several members who have experience teaching this course, so we may be able to host
one. Wally will look into hosting an event at Pace HS. PCA is willing to provide financial
assistance to regions that conduct a Street Survival course (up to $1000). It usually costs $75 to
participate. We will probably not make much money on this event since there are considerable
hosting expenses, but the value lies in teaching driving skills that could save lives.
Wally will send information about this to Pete, who will also send it to Roger.
15. Zonefest. There will not be a 2015 Zonefest. If we are asked to host one, we would insist
that it be held between 1 October and 28 March to obtain much better hotel rates, and to have
fewer tourists. It would probably be held in Destin since that dealership has many contacts
useful for this type event.
16. Calendar Events. We are looking to add these events to our calendar:
 Date TBD - Street Survivor Course at Pace HS. Stephen will see if this date is available.



October 3 - Perdido Winery Tour. We would meet at the Wilcox exit on I-10 (in
Alabama), do the driving tour to the winery, have lunch at the Stagecoach Cafe, and
return home independently. Wally and Stephen will work out the details.
October 17 - autocross at Pace HS. Stephen will see if this date is available.
December - Christmas lunch at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL.
17. New Business. We are not getting adequate member participation in our activities, so we
are working on a participation points system. Members would get points for attending events
(social, track, tours, tech session, etc.) and for other PCA efforts like submitting a newsletter
article. Members or member with the most points at the end of a certain time period (most
likely annually) would receive a prize. Pete will work up a draft points system for the board to
review.
18. Adjourn. After all agenda items had been discussed, Wally adjourned the meeting.
