Garrett Phillips (208) 582-1953 PO Box 193 gphil89@hotmail.com Saint Maries, ID 83861 OBJECTIVE: To obtain a geology technician position where I can show my sense of hard work and strong initiative that will help me excel as an employee. EDUCATION: Bachelor of General Geology (expected May 2014) University of Idaho, Moscow, ID RELATED EXPERIENCE: Ore Deposits 404 where we studied multiple ore deposits such as Porphyry deposits Skarn deposits Platinum Group Element deposits Carlin Type deposits Epithermal deposits Volcanic Massive Sulfide deposits Metamorphic Gold type deposits In the University of Idaho’s ore deposit class we went on a field trip to Winnemucca, Nevada where we went to various Carlin type deposits including Twin Creeks where we mapped high walls in open pits, got to see ore bearing core such as some of the limestone breccia’s, and a presentation on some of the mapping programs that they use such as volcom. We also toured Hecla’s property the Lucky Friday mine, which is thought to be a remobilized sedimentary exhalative deposit. Here we descended to their 5300ft level and went through a day in the shoes of a Production geologist from judging the ore grade in a face to mapping all the faults and veins present in the face to scale and determining the different ore minerals present such as tetrahedrite, spahlerite, and galena. Field camp I (June 2013) Various mapping exercises Locating and identifying faults Fossil identification Extensive work finding strike and dip with a Brunton Identifying various stratigraphic formations within the Elko Nevada area The University of Idaho breaks their field camp into two sections field camp one and two. I attended field camp one in 2013. We went to Cave Lake in Elko Nevada where we camped for three weeks in the snow and rain mapping the multiple formations in our mapping unit and the faults present. We went into extensive depth on how to determine the different types of limestone’s, if their depositional environment was high or low, if the strata had been up lifted or moved by tectonics and if so identifying the faults, their fossils within the strata, and if they had undergone any alteration. The main formations we looked at were the Devonian Guilmette, Devonian Mississippian, and the Joana Limestone along with some rhyolites, arenites and cherts. LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Wild land firefighter (2010 through 2013) Firefighter type I Incident Command 5 Supervised 3-5 people I have fought fire for Idaho Department of Lands for four years seasonally when I’m not in school. I enjoy firefighting because there is always room for growth and to earn more responsibility. The criteria for a firefighter type 1 and Incident Command 5 is the ability to be in charge of a scene such as a moderate size fire with possible aviation and a hand crew. I’m currently a squad boss which puts me in charge of 3 to 5 people on a crew. I’m currently working on getting my engine boss; this entails me being in charge of a fire truck with the possibility of taking a fire truck across the country with a small crew. I plan on fighting fire until I can find a geology job.
