Obituary Marion P. “Spike” Spigener Jr. Marion 'Spike' P. Spigener Jr., 70, died December 8, 2011 at the Connecticut Hospice surrounded by friends and family after a long illness. Spike was born July 15, 1941 in Charlotte, NC. After graduating from Duke University in 1963, Spike worked in the insurance industry until his move to New York City in 1967 where he began his career in advertising. He worked for many of the top advertising firms over the next few years and was made account executive for United Aircraft (later named United Technologies). In 1975 they offered him a position at Sikorsky Aircraft where he became Director of Advertising, and later Manager of International and Domestic Marketing Support and other management positions until his retirement in 2001. In 1975 he moved to New Haven. After his retirement, he was a volunteer at Yale New Haven Hospital, a Board member of Edgerton Park, and President of the Resident's Association at the Village at Mariner's Point, where he lived for the past few years. Spike is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret S. and W. Clay Hamne;, his nieces, Mary Margaret Beaver (Josh), Lynn Furgurson (Jim), Julia Cheatwood (David) and nephew David Hamner; as well as four great-nieces and nephews, McNair Beaver, Avery, Griffin and Lila Cheatwood. He was pre-deceased by his parents Marion P. Spigener and Anna Louise RennekerSpigener, his sister, Mary Spigener English and nephew, Christopher Franklin English. Spike will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends and all those whose lives he touched. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, corner Whitney Ave. and Cold Spring St., New Haven, CT Monday morning at 11:00.
