HBI Associate Membership Application
Thank you for your interest in the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. The success that the HBI has achieved to date, and
will achieve in the future, is principally based on the efforts and achievements of its members. Our members
secure tens of millions of dollars in competitive external funding each year, they create new collaborative, team
based projects, and they drive research discovery and translation efforts within the Institute. While the HBI
provides resources, such as space, core facilities, and seed funding, the activities of our members, working
together to advance our research and education mission, are the true ‘engine' of the HBI. Membership in the
HBI (new and continuing) is approved by the Institute Executive Committee and is subject to periodic review.
The Associate membership term is three years (renewable).
The benefits and responsibilities associated with Associate membership in the Institute are governed by the HBI
Membership Guidelines (below). Please review these guidelines before applying for HBI Associate membership.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA:
 An academic appointment at a Canadian university; including adjunct and research appointments
 If the applicant is external to the University of Calgary, they must be sponsored by a Full HBI member
 An interest in brain or mental health research and/or education, but with a primary interest or commitment
outside of the HBI
BENEFITS:
 Opportunities for collaboration with the HBI membership, including the option to join one or more
NeuroTeam*
 Invitations to all HBI events for the PI plus all of their trainees and research staff
 Please note that Associate members are not eligible for HBI funding, direct support or core resources, and
typically are not allocated space within the HBI footprint
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Ongoing contributions to HBI research and/or education activities which contribute to the Institute’s goals
outlined in the 2015 HBI Strategic Plan
o Contributions may include participation in collaborative projects, membership on graduate student
review committees, internal review of grant applications and other similar activities
