Junior Scholarships
Scholarship Application Directions






Applying for scholarships is the responsibility of the students (i.e. Meeting deadlines,
completing required paperwork, requesting transcripts, ect.)
Students must mail completed applications along with supporting documents to the address
provided on the scholarship application unless otherwise noted.
Students must also submit a copy of scholarship application to Ms. Walker in Rm 122
Students may pick up a bulletin or a scholarship application before/after school or during
lunch.
Deadlines are located as either “Postmarked” or received by dates. Students are responsible
for mailing applications by required deadlines unless other wised noted in the instructions.
Scholarships which require a transcript must be requested from the registrar’s office at least
two (2) days prior to the deadline.
Application: The HHSS list is updated monthly to provide students with the criteria and online
applications. If you are unable to download the application, come to the Go Center for help. Read
the application and determine the requirements. Type the application or neatly complete the
application in black ink. Many University scholarships are available on the www.applytexas.org web
site.
Transcript (HHSS): Most scholarships require an official transcript. Request your official transcript (your
grades from HHSS) from the Registrar, Mrs. Shepherd TWO (2) DAYS PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE.
Essay Type: The essay(s). Run a spell check, check for grammatical errors, and have someone
proofread it.
Letters of Recommendation: Ask your teachers, counselors, administrators, or people in the
community for a recommendation letter. Give them 5 days to write a letter. Provide information to
your recommender listing your accomplishments. A resume would be a great source of information
for the recommender.
Deadlines: Strictly adhered to by the scholarship committees. Deadlines are noted as either
“postmarked” or received by dates. Students are responsible for mailing application by required
deadlines unless otherwise noted in the instructions. Scholarships applications, which are to be
submitted to Ms. Walker @ Rm. 122, must be received by 10:30 am. on due date. Keep all the
documents together to be mailed or submitted. In a large yellow envelope, place the application,
official transcript, essay(s), resume, and letters of recommendation. Remember, each scholarship has
its own requirements; late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

 American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest
Criteria: Available to high school students who are under the age of 20 and citizens of the U.S. Must
prepare an oration on some aspect of the U.S Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and

 CaptainU Scholarship
Criteria: Available to high school student athletes who looking to attend a four-year college. For

 CK Scholarship
Criteria: Available to all high school student. Participants must register to participate in scholarship
quizzes that test your knowledge of topics ranging from general “common knowledge” to specific
academic subjects, books, websites, and even movies. Students with the highest scores at the end of

 College Prowler No Essay Scholarship
Criteria: Available to anyone who plans to enter College in the next 12 months. For more information,

Davenport University Scholarship
o Platinum Scholarship
 Criteria: Available to high school juniors who plan to attend Davenport University
in Grand Rapids, MI. You must have a minimum GPA of at least a 3.4 at the end
of junior year or an ACT of 23 or SAT of 1080. For more information, go to

 Amount: $5,000 per year

o Gold Scholarship
 Criteria: Available to high school juniors who plan to attend Davenport University
in Grand Rapids, MI. You must have a minimum GPA of at least a 3.2 at the end

Sliver Scholarship
 Criteria: Available to high school juniors who plan to attend Davenport University
in Grand Rapids, MI. You must have a minimum GPA of at least a 2.8 at the end
of junior year or an ACT of 19 or SAT of 910. For more information, go to

 Eagle Scout of the Year Scholarship
Criteria: Available to high school students who are at least 15 years of age. You must be a registered
and active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew chartered to an
American Legion Auxiliary unit or Sons of the American Legion squadron. You must have received the
Eagle Scout Award, be an active member of your religious institution and have received the
appropriate Boy Scout Religious emblem and have demonstrated practical citizenship in church,

 First Freedom Student Competition
Criteria: Available to all high school students. Students are asked to examine the history and current
day relevance or religious freedom, and then, by written essay or video production, present their

 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program
Criteria: Available to students 6-18, and not yet graduated high school that have made amazing
contributions to their community. Students must be nominated by someone over the age of 21;
parents may nominate their child as long as they are not a Kohl’s employee. For more information,

 Prom Guide Model Scout Contest
Criteria: Available to high school juniors and seniors. To be considered, you must register as a Prom
Guide model scout who will help discover Prom Guide’s next top model. For more information go to

 Nordstorm Scholarship
Criteria: Available to any high school junior with at least a 2.7 GPA. Volunteers or participates in
community services or extracurricular activities. Also plans on attending a four-year college or

 Rachel Carson Book Award
Criteria: Available to high school juniors who plan to attend Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. You
must demonstrate excellence in science and writing with an interest in environmental issues to be

 Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program
Criteria: Available to high school juniors who are direct descendants of U.S. wartime veterans who
served during one or more of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for

Criteria: Available to underrepresented and first-generation college-bound students. You must be
