Livingston County Schools Unit #3 Math Course: ______Geometry_____________________ Unit Overview Students are introduced to the Pythagorean Theorem as a tool for finding the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle. Translating the theorem to the standard (x,y) coordinate plane, students establish the distance formula and use it to determine the length of segments and the coordinates of the midpoints of segments. Students will also identify and write equations for parallel and perpendicular lines using coordinate geometry. Disciplinary Core Idea- Coordinate Geometry Length of unit: ___3 weeks_______ Performance Expectations C.1.d; G.1.a,b,c Learning Target Critical Vocabulary 3.1 I can use coordinate geometry to Coordinate geometry, midpoint find missing points and discover the formula, endpoint, slope, parallel, midpoint conjecture. perpendicular, Pythagorean theorem, Distance formula 3.2 I can find the midpoint given endpoints and find the missing endpoint given the midpoint and the other endpoint. 3.3 I can find the slope of a line. 3.4 I can find the slope of parallel and perpendicular lines. 3.5 I can determine if two lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
