Course unit Description: This unit provides students with
a first-hand introduction to the relevant cultural,
geographical, historical, and archaeological issues. This
unit features a 16 day field study program in the location
of Israel and some sites within Palestinian Territories,
formative for the biblical text.
Class Requirements: There are two required attendance components for this unit: orientation meetings
(throughout the semester) and Field Study. The first required attendance component is the Orientation
meetings. There are three orientation meetings: 7pm – 9pm (EST) 14th June; 12th Sept; 14th Nov. These
will be conducted at the Chester Hill/Parramatta campus; however students outside of the Sydney
region can connect via pre-arranged technological facilities. The second required attendance
component is the Field Study component. The dates of the Field Study are still to be advised, but will
occur anytime between 2nd to 23rd December (approx 20 days). The Field Study component departs
from Sydney airport. Students are required to travel together as part of the learning experience. There
will be no alternative arrangements for travel.
Census Date: The census date for this unit is 22nd July 2011. Students who withdraw before census date
(22nd July 2011) can do so without financial or academic penalty. Any student who withdraws after
census date (22nd July 2011) will incur a financial penalty (the student will be charged the full fee of the
unit) and will also incur an academic penalty (the student will receive a fail grade for this unit).
Costs: The cost of this unit is $6,990.00 per student (domestic and overseas students). This includes
group airfare costs, accommodation, meals in Israel, transport to field locations, tuition fee. This does
not include travel visas, passport application fee, travel insurance, travel to and from Sydney airport, or
personal spending money. FEE-Help is available for this unit for eligible students. Students who enrol in
this unit but who will not be accessing FEE-Help for this unit must pay the full cost of this unit prior to
census date or they will be withdrawn from the unit of study.
Enrolment Requirements: Students who apply must be in good physical condition. A health statement
(signed by a GP) must be provided by applicants over 50 years of age.
Application Process: For security reasons, students applying must be approved by Alphacrucis College
as appropriate representatives of the College in this politically sensitive region. Students must be in
good academic and financial standing with the college. To be in good academic standing means that the
student must have a GPA of 2.0 or more, and that there are no pastoral concerns raised by the Student
Dean and be a regular participant in a local church. To be in good financial standing means that the
student does not have outstanding fees on their College account. To ensure the above, the application
process will require approval from the Alphacrucis College Academic Dean and the Alphacrucis College
Student Dean.
Enrolment Restrictions: Student enrolments in this study program are limited. Priority will be given to
students in their final year of study
