January 2013
Dear Patients
Happy New Year to you all. It's time to catch up with what has been happening over the past few
weeks and to inform you of changes that will happen in the next few months.
We are delighted to announce that Ancora Pharmacy opened on 7th January. The pharmacy is partly
owned by the practice and Adrian Garner of Garners pharmacy. The pharmacy has opened under a
100 hour licence which means that it must be open for at least 100 hours per week and there must be
a qualified pharmacist on site at all times. The pharmacy offers all the services that other pharmacies
provide and is available to give medical advice when the surgery is closed.
ASHBY ROAD
The extension is nearly complete, just the final decorating and floor covering to finish. The new
reception area should also be completed in the next two weeks. We really hope you like the reception
desk, we have made the whole area more open plan taking away the old fashioned windows,
removing the telephones from the front desk to give a more friendly and approachable area to you the
patients. The extension and alterations have meant that we have increased the number of consulting
rooms for 10 to 12.
The next part of the development is to update the remaining four consulting rooms. In order to meet
the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act it has meant that the corridor has needed to be
widened. This will result in some loss of space in two of the rooms, but by reorganising the fixtures,
fittings and furniture and removing the chimney breast this means that the loss of space has been
recompensed with more suitable rooms. We hope that you agree with us that the alterations have
achieved the aim of ensuring the practice now has facilities that are able to provide medical services
that are safe and more suitable for a doctor’s surgery.
DETUYLL STREET
We have taken on board the comments patients made to the Patient Participation Group when they
hosted a market stall on the premises. We are looking at ways of improving our waiting and reception
areas so that you are comfortable in these areas. We will report back in the next few months
PRACTICE UPDATE
It is with sadness that we report that Dr Kundu will be retiring from the practice on 31st March.
Dr Kundu has been with the practice for 11years. Initially he came to help out for a couple of years
but enjoyed working with us and you the patients so much that he just stayed. We will all miss him as
he is a very kind and caring doctor who has been an important part of our clinical team. Best wishes
to him for a long and happy retirement.
Dr Kennedy will be celebrating his 60th birthday in February. He has decided that now is the time for
him to consider his future. He has decided to step down as a partner of the practice. As from 1st April
Dr Kennedy will be a salary doctor working on a reduced contract of 6 sessions per week, the actual
sessions will be confirmed in March. Dr Henalla will become senior partner. The partners are
interviewing for a replacement in the next few weeks.
However, the partners have decided that the naming of the practice after the senior partner is outdated and the practice needs its own identity. After consideration we have decided to name the
practice ANCORA MEDICAL PRACTICE. A new logo and paperwork is currently being designed to
match the name.
As with all changes that happen in the practice we welcome input and comments from the patients.
These comments can either be made directly to Christine Buckley, Practice Director, or you may
consider joining our Patient Participation Group. The group has been in existence for two years and
meets once every 3 months. This is an opportunity for patients, staff and doctors to meet together to
review any problems, have input to proposed changes and to feedback views to the Clinical
Commission Group (CCG). The CCG from 1st April will hold the budget for commissioning
healthcare in North Lincolnshire and are keen to work with patients and listen to any views they may
have on current services.
Finally, despite all the upheaval of the past few months I am pleased to announce that the practice
will be receiving recognition on 29th January for being the first practice in the country to achieve the
Royal College of General Practitioner Practice accreditation award. Achievement is being recognised
by the Chair of the RCGP Professor Clare Gerada who is coming to personally present a plaque to
the practice in recognition of the award. The award is given to a practice that can demonstrate that it
is compliant with 72 standards as set by the College. The work that has been undertaken to achieve
this award helps us to tick many of the standards that we are required to meet for Care Quality
Commission registration which practices have to achieve by 1st April 2013.
APPOINTMENTS
As with the changes at Detuyll Street we listened to your comments regarding the appointments
system. The partners have met and agreed that changes need to be made to improve the way
patients access appointments. It has been agreed that from 11th March all same-day appointments
will be released at 8am, no additional appointments will be released during the day.
It might be worth reminding patients that there are pre-bookable appointments available for all doctors
up to 3 months in advance. This is useful for when the doctor has advised follow up, and can be
booked at any time during the day. The practice will still offer some same-day emergency
appointments which will be released, if required. Also with the complete computerisation of patients’
records it is possible to have an appointment at either surgery. Also appointments can be booked
online, please ask at reception for a user name and password. These appointment are limited but we
are hoping to increase the number available online abet the changes on 11th March. A new
timetable for the doctors will be released shortly which will assist in you booking your appointment.
We welcome any comments or ideas you may have to help us improve our service to you. We are
currently undertaking a survey and questionnaires are available in reception, please complete one
and let us know how you think we are performing.
Another way you can let us know your views is to write them in our comment book, please ask at
reception. We hope that you will give good feedback as well so that we know when we are getting
things right.
If you need to complain, there are leaflets and posters in waiting areas or ask to speak to me, email
me or write, we take all complaints seriously and promise to investigate them and feedback to you.
Kind Regards
Christine Buckley
Practice Director
