Hidden Histories – Initial Contact Form
We need you! … to help uncover the hidden histories of Wales.
They are called “hidden histories” because unless you help us uncover them, they will remain hidden…
remarkable people, groups and initiatives forgotten in the mists of time.
What histories? Stories about any individual, groups or events that provides a small part of the answer
to the question: In the 100 years since the First World War, how has Wales contributed to the search for peace?
Who can write these stories? Anyone! It’s not who you are or your background that’s important – it’s the
story you have to share with the nation. That’s why there’s back-up support if you need help or training.
When will this be done? We have until 2019 to gather all the histories but as soon as the stories are
ready they will be shared on this site. Experienced historians will probably choose to work independently
but for the inexperienced we have an extensive range of training opportunities available to help you
research and capture your story.
Where? The project has a Wales perspective but the story gatherers could be anywhere worldwide,
maybe descendants of notable figures or beneficiaries of Welsh peace outreach initiatives.
How? The only way this history can be collected is through proactive volunteers who are passionate
about saving the past for the future. Once you’ve identified your story/stories you can return the initial
engagement form/s with the outline or the completed story . On the form you can tell us about materials you
have for scanning or any training you need to capture your story, so that with our partner organisations we
can try address your requirements.
Why? We need to collect this heritage for future generations. Headline events and starring people are
well documented but individual stories, no matter how small, when captured on a national patchwork of
history will give us a clearer picture of our legacy and will provide an importantly springboard for
discussions about the Wales we want to leave for future generations.
What Next?
Use the form overleaf to share your hidden history ideas with us!
