ACADEMIC PLAN
Background
As members of Pi Lambda Phi and as undergraduate students we value academic success. The purpose of
this academic plan is to help Pi Lambda Phi members achieve academic success. In alignment with the
North-American Interfraternity Conference’s (NIC) standards, Pi Lambda Phi’s Chapter Minimum
Standards requires chapters and colonies to maintain at least a 2.7 semester average GPA. Many chapters
and colonies have an additional individual membership standard GPA based on a member’s cumulative
GPA.
Academic Probation
Members of the chapter that fall under the minimum cumulative GPA of [INSERT GPA PER LOCAL
CONSTITUTION/INSTITUTIONAL AGREEMENT], set by their local chapter are subject to academic
probation. Academic probation entails a loss of the following privileges.
 Ability to take a Little Brother
 Ability to hold a formal leadership position as an Executive Board member, Director, or
Coordinator. Note: If a member currently holds a formal leadership position, they will be
removed and an emergency election/appointment shall take place at the first Chapter Meeting of
the semester
 Social privileges, which means a member shall not attend any social function, formal or informal,
except for dry brotherhood events.
If a member does not raise their GPA above the minimum standard in [INSERT NUMBER PER LOCAL
CONSTITUTION/INSTITUTIONAL AGREEMENT] consecutive semesters, the member shall
automatically be brought up for expulsion.
Positive Reinforcement
Academic success deserves to be celebrated by others. Incentivizing members can often be a great
motivator. To support the importance of academic success, $[INSERT $$$ AMOUNT] shall be allocated
each semester within the chapter’s budget for positive incentives/rewards for those who achieve academic
success. The following incentives shall be awarded to those members who achieved the following in the
previous semester based on the semester GPA.
 Highest Semester GPA: $[INSERT $$$ AMOUNT (RECOMMENDED $50)] off of their next
semester dues
 Most Improved Semester GPA: $[INSERT $$$ AMOUNT (RECOMMENDED $50)] off of their
next semester dues
 Dean’s List: Attend Dean’s List Dinner paid for by the chapter. Up to $[INSERT $$$ AMOUNT
(RECOMMENDED $25)] per member shall be allocated for the member’s dinner.
 Improved by [INSERT # FOR INCREASE (RECOMMENDED 0.3)]: $[INSERT $$$ AMOUNT
(RECOMMENDED $15)] off of their next semester dues
Note: Incentives do not have to be awarded in the form of monetary rewards. They can be dinners, gifts
cards, free t-shirts, etc. Each chapter should approve incentives that are appropriate for their chapter.
Points System
In an effort to hold all members on accountable and further reinforce the chapter’s dedication to academic
success, the following points system shall be overseen by the Academic Coordinator. Each month a
member must accrue the required number of points, based on the member’s current cumulative GPA, in
order to avoid sanctions. If a member fails to accrue the required points, the following shall happen.
 If already on Academic Probation, the member shall be placed on Academic Suspension, which
includes the loss of the following privileges:
o Unable to attend events except those required to keep the member in good standing,
weekly chapter meetings, community service, academic study events, chapter non-social
required events, and institution required events.
o Ability to vote on all chapter matters.
o Ability to wear any insignia of Pi Lambda Phi, except for the Brother Badge during the
weekly chapter meeting.
 If not on Academic Probation, the member shall lose the privilege to attend all social events,
formal and informal, except for dry brotherhood events.
A member shall regain all privileges upon making up the points not completed from the previous month.
Note: Points cannot be accrued for the current month until the previous month’s points are accrued.
Members, including those on Academic Probation, who meet the requirement shall be placed in a raffle.
One member shall be drawn randomly and receive a prize each month. Typical prizes include a $15 gift
card or a coupon for a free dinner.
The following tables outline the monthly points requirement based on a member’s current cumulative
GPA and the requirements for how a member accrues or losses points during a given month.
