NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Southcoast® Blood Bank’s annual promotion, “Give a Pint, Get a
Pound” featuring Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, returns to the region during National Blood Donor Month this
January.
In January 2014, anyone who donates blood at the Southcoast Blood Bank at St. Luke’s Hospital
or at any Southcoast community blood drive will receive a certificate for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts
coffee. Coupons are redeemable at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants while supplies last.
“We are very grateful that we can once again partner with local Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants for
this wonderful promotion,” said John Laverty, MD, Medical Director of the Southcoast Blood Bank.
“Their commitment and support is a great gift to the community, especially during the winter months
when blood donations tend to be slow.”
The Southcoast Blood Bank must collect more than 16,000 pints of blood a year. Currently
through local donor programs, the Southcoast Blood Bank collects 6,500 pints a year, which is less than
half of the blood needed to supply Southcoast Hospitals and the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care. The
remainder of the blood is purchased from external sources and therefore dependent on the national blood
supply. The Southcoast Blood Bank provides blood for emergencies, for patients with cancer and other
serious illnesses and for patients having surgery.
“Dunkin’ Donuts is honored to partner with the Southcoast Blood Bank for the Give a Pint, Get a
Pound promotion once again,” said Michael Mahon, Field Marketing Manager for Dunkin’
Donuts. “Giving blood is great way to give the gift of life this holiday season, and we hope that receiving
a pound of delicious Dunkin’ Donuts coffee will help encourage our neighbors to reach out this January at
a time when it’s needed most.”
You have a choice! Donate local.
The Southcoast Blood Bank is the only blood donation venue that directly supports the South
Coast communities’ blood supply. When you donate blood at a Southcoast-sponsored blood drive you are
helping to keep your local blood supply strong — so it is there when you need it.
Where to donate
Southcoast hosts blood drives throughout the region on the Southcoast Health Van and at local
businesses. To find a list of community blood drives during the month of January, please visit our website
