Holmes Museum of Anthropology The Anthropology department at Wichita State University in Wichita Kansas is searching for a Museum Director for the Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology. This position is an unclassified professional, non-tenure track position within the Department of Anthropology. The primary responsibilities include the operation of the museum, along with teaching existing and potentially developing new museum courses within the department. The Museum Director also provides oversight for the day to day operations and the continued expansion and development of the Lowell D. Holmes Museum. This includes managing staff, acquisitions, collections, conservation, preservation, protection, preparation, research, exhibition and interpretation of objects belonging to or in the temporary custody of the museum. In collaboration with other WSU administrative units and the WSU Foundation, the Director coordinates all development activities of the museum, including generating external support from private and public entities. The minimum qualifications for this position are a Master’s degree in anthropology, experience conducting ethnographic or other anthropological fieldwork or research on museum collections, a willingness to teach museum methods and studies courses, background in museum procedures, ethics, collections management, and exhibit design and construction, and fundraising experience, including grant writing and donor retention.
