Blog site/app The students will be writing their findings and personal reflections on their interviews. They will need to respond to the findings of their peers and help make and explain grammar errors. NOTE: I am not sure yet which site to use for my blog I hope to start for this assignment. Any ideas? DAY 1: Activities, Procedures, and Outcomes: 1. Students complete Warm-up Activity (in class) A. Students will do a 5 minute free-write answering the question...What is beauty in your eyes and why? B. In the target language Students will compare and contrast their free-write with their neighbor. 2. Philosophical Circle: As a whole class we will sit on the floor in a circle and discuss of opinions of beauty. Within our discussion students must use and practice advanced vocabulary in Spanish to express opinion. The students must use the Tu form when addressing their peers and the Ud form while responding to my comments and opinions. 3. Introduce the lesson: I will explain to the class that as tonight’s homework assignment they need to come up with 4 names of people who speak Spanish who are of different ages (under 10, 11-40, 40+), of different gender, and of different hispanic backgroud. (NOTE: 80% of our school and community is from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, or Guatemala so this should not be a difficult task.) DAY 2: Activities, Procedures, and Outcomes: 4. Students will turn in their homework and report back to the class who their 4 interviewees will be. At this time we will work as a class to help any student who has trouble finding 4 people of different age, gender, and culture. 5. I will explain to the students that over a course of a week they will need to do to complete the next portion of this assignment: (I will pass out the rubric as well.) a. interview (in Spanish) these four people, recording each of the conversations. b. Record each conversation using Voice Memo or Voice Record Pro (or any other recording app or device.) c. Within each conversation they will have to be sure to use the Tu form with people their age or younger and use the Ud. form for the people older than them. d. Listen back to their recordings to listen for and note grammatical, pronunciation, and register errors as well as uses of advanced vocabulary. e. Email me their recordings within one week’s time. f. Write a personal reflection in our class blog explaining their findings on how the meaning of beauty may be the same or different depending on one’s gender, age, and cultural background. They also need to include their own thoughts on their findings. g. Read and comment on their peers’ reflections and findings on the blog. They must comment on similarities and differences between their findings and note grammatical errors within their blog posts. 4. After the week deadline I will listen to each recording and read the blog to grade them using the rubric. I will also note grammatical, pronunciation, and register errors so to discuss them in class. 5. As a whole class we will regroup and discuss major similarities and differences we found in our findings. We will also take time to go over the errors I heard on the recordings and read on the blog.
