Responses may be sent to Davina Diaz, Forest Civil Rights Officer. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is seeking a dynamic, innovative self-starter to complement our Engineering team. The duty location is Weaverville or Hayfork, California. Duties: - Prepares original designs and preliminary and final layouts. Such projects may include road design, small bridges, retaining walls, major drainage structures, and erosion control features. - Develops design, coordinating with other engineers to ensure that all technical areas are covered. - Prepares or supervises preparation of special design specifications, cost estimates, and complete design package. - Prepares or reviews Environmental Analysis, Environmental Impact Statements, and special reports with regard to new or improved engineering construction. - Coordinates with other resource area specialists to complete environmental documents and clearances. - Analyzes existing routes for suitability of various road or trail management alternatives. Supervises inspections of all road construction work, periodically making personal inspections to ensure all are maintained to the original standard of construction and to ensure compliance with safety, health and regulatory requirements. - Serves as Engineering Representative (ER) or Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) providing technical advice, recommendations and suitable alternatives to the Contracting Officer and Forest Officials. Forest: The Shasta-Trinity National Forest, located in north central California, is the largest national forest in California and provides some of the highest quality fish and wildlife habitat in the Pacific Northwest. It is comprised of 2.1 million acres and includes five wilderness areas, hundreds of mountain lakes, Mt. Shasta (14, 162 ft.) and more than 6,000 miles of streams and rivers. Communities: Hayfork Ranger Station is located in Hayfork, California which is a small rural community with a population of approximately 2,500 people. It is located about 60 miles west of Redding at an elevation of 2,300 feet. Hayfork has churches, stores, a medical clinic, and schools up to and including high school. Housing costs are approximately $180,000250,000 for a 3 Bedroom/2 Bath house and rentals average $700/month. The Hayfork area offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities in a rural setting. Weaverville Ranger Station is located in Weaverville, California. This historic town and county seat is nestled at the base of the magnificent Trinity Alps Wilderness. It is about 40 miles west of Redding, California, 80 miles south of the California/Oregon border and two hours from the Pacific Coast. It is a full-service community of approximately 3,500 people and features a hospital, high school, charter and private schools, satellite junior college campus, restaurants, movie theater, grocery stores, churches, etc. Public transportation is available with a county bus service. The closest commercial airport is in Redding. There is a weekly newspaper in Weaverville and a daily newspaper in Redding. There are four distinct seasons. Summers are dry with temperatures between 80 and 100 degrees F. Most precipitation falls between mid-October and May, some in the form of snow. Average precipitation is 36 inches for the Weaverville area. The average temperature in January is 32 degrees and 95 degrees in August. The average 3-bedroom/2bath house sells for $280,000 and up in the Weaverville area. Monthly rental for a 3 bedroom house is about $850. Housing and rental costs are somewhat lower in surrounding communities.
