Direct Detection and Treatment of Emotional factors in Somatic Presentations ISTDP for the Psychosomatic Patient 4th Swedish Immersion in Davanloo’s ISTDP with Dr Allan Abbass and Colleagues We are pleased to announce a 3 day Immersion course in Davanloo’s ISTDP in Stockholm September 10-12, 2015. Over one half of all presentations to specialty physicians and one quarter of emergency department visits are for medically unexplained symptoms costing patients and governments tons of money. The Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy framework (www.istdp.ca) has been developed to rapidly assess and treat these somatic symptoms across the full range of patient personality patterns. This in depth videotape based Immersion will cover the following areas: Overview of Davanloo’s Metapsychology of the Unconscious Psychodiagnostic assessment to detect somatic effects of emotions. Treatment techniques to access underlying emotions including pressure, challenge and head on collision with resistance The timing of these interventions will be highlighted with a series of videos Detailed review of videotape of the primitive unconscious in somatic patients will be reviewed so you have a deep understanding of the forces maintaining somatization when you sit with these patients. He completed a degree in Medicine at Dalhousie and has worked as both a family physician and an emergency physician. Frustrated by the limits of traditional medicine, he began to study with Dr. Davanloo at McGill University in 1990, where he began training in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy. 25 years later, he is a leading teacher and researcher in the area of Short-term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, having contributed over 150 publications.
