Statement of Understanding between Miss Spirit of America 2014
and the Miss Spirit of America Scholarship Organization
I attest that I am a citizen of The United States of America and I meet the requirements to
enter the pageant based on ONE of the following. Only one is required to meet pageant
requirements.

1. Relationship:
The Miss Spirit of America Scholarship Organization is organized as a nonprofit organization whose
express purposes include:
1. The provision of scholarship funds.
2. The representation of Decatur in the Miss Alabama Pageant
3. The representation of the sponsors of the Miss Spirit of America Organization.
4. The promotion of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant.
As a result, there are several important premises, which are basic to Miss Spirit of America’s Year of
Service. I agree the Director and the Miss Spirit of America Pageant committee have complete
management control of Miss Spirit of America for her year of service. Miss Spirit of America must
recognize that for her year of service she will represent Decatur, the Miss Spirit of America
Scholarship Organization and its sponsors. It is important that she maintain immaculate personal
grooming whether on campus, going shopping, or any public appearances. ______(Initial)
2. Rules and regulations. I agree to participate in the series of events leading up to the final
selection of Miss Spirit of America 2014 and abide by and am bound by the rules and regulations
governing scholarships and other prizes. ______(Initial)
3. Agree to hold harmless. I agree that neither Miss Spirit of America officials, nor the sponsors
of Miss Spirit of America, nor anyone working for or with this pageant shall be held liable should
any accident occur during any rehearsals or during the pageant activities. I agree that neither Miss
Spirit of America officials, nor the sponsors, nor anyone working for or with this pageant shall be
held liable should any theft or destruction of my personal property occur during any rehearsals or
during the pageant activities, except for the perpetrator of said theft or destruction. ______(Initial)
4. Local representation. I agree that the Director and the Miss Spirit of America Pageant
committee have absolute management control of Miss Spirit of America for her year of service.
Miss Spirit of America must recognize that for her year of service she will represent Decatur, the
Spirit of America Festival, the Miss Spirit of America Scholarship organization and its sponsors. It is
important that she maintain immaculate personal grooming whether on campus, going shopping, or

5. Mandatory events. If I am selected as Miss Spirit of America 2014 I agree to make myself
available for public appearances required of me by the pageant officials. I understand that I am
only allowed to wear my crown in public with my director’s permission. For my own safety and for the
integrity of the pageant, I will refer all requests for appearances to the pageant director(s). All
appearances must be cleared and approved by the Director. The director will e-mail me a copy of
each Appearance Agreement that details where I am to be, date and time, wardrobe
recommendations, obligations and expectations. Miss Spirit of America must be prompt for every
appearance. There is never an excuse for being late. Under most circumstances, a member of the
Miss Spirit of America Board will accompany the titleholder on any official appearances; however
should a board member not be available for the event, a chaperone approved by the director will
accompany her.
Miss Spirit of America 2014 will supply the director on or before April 5, 2015 a list of all of her
appearances from June 22, 2014 to those scheduled through April 30, 2015. The list will be
reviewed and submitted to the Miss Alabama State Field Director. ______(Initial)

B. I will notify the director immediately if I have a potential conflict with an appearance date.
At his discretion, the director may relieve me of the appearance or pursue an alternate date.
If for any reason I do not show up for an appearance, on first occurrence 10% of my
remaining scholarship earnings will be deducted. Second occurrence results in an additional
10% of my scholarship earning. Third offense will result in the forfeit of all remaining
scholarship money as well as the title of Miss Spirit of America 2014 per item under

6. Healthy lifestyle. As Miss Spirit of America, I agree to maintain the weight agreed upon
between me and the pageant director, to abide by an exercise program and maintain healthy
eating habits to maintain my physical appearance. ______(Initial)
7. Information. I understand the importance of the interview portion of competition and I agree to
maintain a reading program to stay informed on current events, public issues and world affairs. I
also agree that I will regularly watch local, state and national news programs to stay informed on
current events, public issues and world affairs. Mock interviews will be arranged by the Miss Spirit
of America Board of Directors. ______(Initial)
8. Competition process. I agree that the manner and method of conducting the Miss Spirit of
America Pageant shall be at the sole discretion of the Miss Spirit of America Organization, the Miss
Alabama Pageant and the Miss America pageant. I further agree that the time, method and
manner of judging the Miss Spirit of America Pageant, the awards, and supervision of the
scholarships shall be with the sole discretion of the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant.
The decision of the persons designated to judge the various events in any and all matters pertaining
to the selection of the winners shall be final. ______(Initial)
9. Miss Alabama competition approvals. I understand and agree that the director of the Miss
Point Mallard Scholarship Organization will require all clothing for the competition for the 2014
Miss Alabama Pageant be selected by February 28, 2015. I further agree that the director of the
Miss Spirit of America Pageant has final approval of all clothing (competition, production and
otherwise) to be selected for the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant.
I also agree that the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant, has approval rights of the
talent selection for the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant. Approval of said clothing and talent must
obtained by the contestant from the director by March 1, 2015.
It is the responsibility of Miss Spirit of America 2014 to contact the Executive Director of the
Miss Spirit of America Scholarship Organization to obtain said approval. For approval to be
granted, the Executive Director must see the wardrobe and witness the talent performance in
person. Photographs and/or videos will not suffice. I will have all documents, photos, and
mandatory requirements of Miss Alabama Pageant prepared by the deadline set forth by the Miss
Alabama Pageant for the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant. ______(Initial)
10. Outside coaching prohibited. I understand and agree that I will not have any type of coaching
or outside help, advice, or influences in preparing for the Miss Alabama Pageant without the
approval of the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant. I understand that all decisions will
be made between me and the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant concerning the Miss
Alabama Pageant. Family and friends are welcome to express their opinion but they will play no
part in the decision-making process in preparing for the Miss Alabama Pageant. They are your

11. Good faith deposit. I agree to provide a $50 check payable to the Miss Spirit of America
Pageant in a good faith effort to hold my spot as a contestant./ I am aware that the $50 check
will be returned to me on the day of the pageant. I understand that the deadline to submit my
application packet to the director is Wednesday, June 18, 2014. I also understand that if I am
unable to compete, I will forfeit my deposit. Once my application has been submitted to the
director and he notifies me that I am eligible to compete, should I decide to withdraw from the
competition, I must do so by 5 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 or I forfeit my deposit.

12. Children’s Miracle Network. I am required to have $100 in my www.missamerica4kids.org
Website account before the Miss Spirit of America competition begins, and will provide proof of
monies raised for the Miss America National Platform - Children’s Miracle Network. I also agree
to raise $250 for the National Platform in order to compete in the Miss Alabama Pageant. I
understand that this money must be in my Website account before the Miss Alabama competition
begins in June 2015. ______(Initial)
13. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Instagram and all other social media sites. If I have a
Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Instagram or any other social media account. I understand that
inappropriate pictures and/or language should be removed in order to uphold the dignity of the
pageant. I agree to make my Facebook and MySpace profiles and all other social media sites
available to the director for viewing (in the form of becoming friends on these websites).

14. Succession clause. In the event Miss Spirit of America 2014 is selected as Miss Alabama
2015, no successor will be named. ______(Initial)
15. Loss of title. If any of the representations and warranties made by me are false, or if I
engage in any of the prohibited acts or activities described in any paragraph during the year of my
service, or if I otherwise fail to conduct myself in a manner which, in the opinion of the Miss Spirit of
America Scholarship organization and/or the Miss Alabama Pageant, does not uphold and maintain
the dignity and honor of the title Miss Spirit of America or if I suffer any disability which, in the sole
and exclusive judgment of the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant, may impair my ability
to perform the duties expected of me as Miss Spirit of America, I understand and agree that the Miss
Spirit of America Pageant may, at its exclusive option, terminate my right to participate in the 2015
Miss Alabama Pageant. My right to the title of Miss Spirit of America 2014, and all awards,
scholarships and prerequisites pertaining thereto will be terminated. My successor will receive all of
the benefits to which I would otherwise have been entitled. ______(Initial)
16. Image release. All photographs, videotapes, motion picture films, or other recordings of
reproductions made of me as a contestant in the 2014 Miss Spirit of America Pageant, either
individually or as a member of a group, in connection with the 2014 Pageant, shall become the
property of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant, the Miss Alabama Pageant, and the Miss America
Organization, and the same may be used and reused by them, or anyone designated by them, for
publicity, advertising or any other proper use. I hereby release the Miss Spirit of America
Scholarship organization to post my photographs and biographical information on the Miss Spirit of
America website. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to obtain copyright permission for the
photo to be used and the Miss Spirit of America Scholarship Organization and its sponsors will not
be held liable for any infringement. ______(Initial)
17. Responsibility. I understand that I am solely responsible for all aspects of my role as Miss
Spirit of America 2014. I realize that all preparation for participation in the Miss Alabama
Pageant, including community service, is to be completed by me personally. I will have all
documents, photos and mandatory requirements of Miss Alabama Pageant prepared by the
deadline set forth by the Miss Alabama Pageant for the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant. I also
understand that I am to maintain regular communication with the director of the Miss Spirit of
America Pageant. Establish an e-mail address that will be monitored every 48 hours at a minimum
and will respond promptly to e-mails and phone calls from the director and all committee members.

18. Sponsors. I recognize that during my year of service as Miss Spirit of America, I am required
to represent the sponsors of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant; this includes utilizing the services
and products awarded to Miss Spirit of America from the sponsors. ______(Initial)
19. Compliance. I am otherwise eligible for the title of Miss Spirit of America 2014 by complying
with all requirements of the State and Local contestant Contract set forth by the Miss America
Organization including those that pertain to gender, marital status, parental status, good character,

20. Contestant Agreement. I______________________________________, a Miss Spirit of
America contestant, have read the agreement and understand all rules, conditions, and regulations
set forth by the Miss Spirit of America Scholarship Organization and if selected Miss Spirit of
America 2014 will be able to follow and fulfill all rules, conditions, and regulation set forth in the
Miss Spirit of America Local Contract. I understand that if found in violation of any part of this
contract, the director has the authority to terminate my right to participate in the 2015 Miss
Alabama pageant and my right to the title of Miss Spirit of America 2014 and all awards
scholarships and prerequisites pertaining thereto will be terminated. My successor will receive all

Miss Spirit of America Pageant Scholarship Rules
If I am crowned Miss Spirit of America 2014:

I understand that my cash scholarships will be paid directly to my college or university

If the director of the Miss Spirit of America Pageant revokes my title because of a contract
