Welcome to the Library Leadership Academy! Taking time to examine our professional practice and keep our skills fresh requires ongoing professional development. The changes required to implement the Common Core State Standards require school librarians to learn about the Common Core modules, the Inquiry Process, the Information Fluency Continuum and how our expertise supports instructional practice. Trying to fit professional development for our school libraries into four liaison meetings is not possible. Toward that end we will be offering additional workshops for a fee. This is necessary as we have to pay for travel, preparation, presentation fees, and the space for these sessions. Topics will come from you and be on myriad topics. New programs in the Virtual Reference Collection and the Digital Media Library will be highlighted. Work on the IFC and Common Core and other topics germane to the profession will also be offered. DML and VRC Trainer Betsy Prosser will be offering numerous opportunities for library media specialists to delve deeper into the contents of both the VRC and DML, including connections to the Common Core. All workshops will be offered by ESBOCES School Library System in the computer lab at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System headquarters, 627A North Sunrise Service Road, Bellport, New York 11713. Registration is via My Learning Plan. The cost per workshop session is $50.00 for each participant. Here are the specific descriptions, dates and times of upcoming sessions: Noodletools for Beginners Thursday, March 6, 2014 9:00-12:00 An overview of Noodletools will be offered to familiarize you with the components of this program, where to find tutorials, PowerPoint presentations which you may customize, the Users’ Guide and Knowledge Base, Noodletools Blog, and Educator’s Resources.
