Calendar listing
What is a calendar listing and why do I need to use it? The purpose of the calendar
listing is to primarily inform the public of a specific upcoming event in their area to increase
awareness, attendance and participation. This is a useful tool that if timed correctly can lead
to increased attendance at your event and possibly publicity for your event at virtually no
cost to you.
Who gets the calendar listing? Calendar Listings can be sent out to your local daily and
community newspapers, local and regional magazines, recreational publications and
television stations. They can be mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to the calendar or events
calendar editor. They are typically placed in the events or calendar section. If you are not
familiar with the local newspapers in your area, you can find most contacts online or by
calling your local daily newspaper.
What should a calendar listing look like? Below is a sample calendar listing. For the
purposes of this sample, announcing a Tennis Across America clinic is the topic, but as
mentioned before, it can be used for a variety of upcoming events. It is wise to put the
calendar listing on professional letterhead whether it is your own or your club's.
