“ Exploring Design through Ceramic Creations”

Goals:

1.

To create a ceramic creation of an everyday object using research to support your new design. (6PE- Describe the decisions made in the design of everyday objects.)

2.

To symbolically represent an everyday object incorporating shape and texture into your new creation. (1PR Demonstrate basic technical skill and craftsmanship with various art media when creating images from observation, memory, and imagination.)

3.

To learn to incorporate different techniques in the construction of your everyday object. (

3PR Explore multiple solutions to visual art problems through preparatory work & 4 PR

Establish appropriate levels of craftsmanship when completing artworks.)

4.

Participate in daily sketchbook activities & exercises to expand learning. (2 RE Identify assessment practices to manage, monitor, and document their learning & 3RE- Use appropriate vocabulary to define and describe techniques and materials used to create works of art.)

Assignment Steps:

1.

Complete the research worksheet.

2.

Bring in your everyday object.

3.

Sketch out your 3 new recreation ideas into your sketchbook. Write down what techniques you will use along side of your designs. (Coil, slab building, pinch pot, combination of both etc.)

4.

Meet with Mrs. Thompson to discuss your sketches, research, and pick your recreation.

5.

Begin constructing your everyday recreation of your everyday object. Do not trap air in your construction.

6.

Use various techniques everyday to create texture (carve into, raised, stamp, needle tool etc.)

7.

Add glaze to your everyday object.

8.

Explain the purpose behind your creation.
