www.clear-n-safe.com North East Florida Chemical Corp. November 2012 Chlorine Times It’s Official – Chlorine Gas for Swimming Pools is a Thing of the Past In this issue: The Fate of Gas What’s Changing? Salt Chlorinator Options Floaters-Do you need one? The Chlorine gas manufacturers with the support of the Chlorine Institute have reaffirmed their position to eliminate gas supplies to the residential pool service industry. All companies offering this service in Florida have been notified that they will no longer receive gas supplies. According to our supplier, this action is the result of the chlorine industry’s continuous improvement to safety and security in an effort to protect human health and the environment as it relates to the distribution of chlorine gas. They recognize chlorine is an essential product throughout the U.S. economy. This is especially true for public water utilities in both rural and urban communities. By reducing the distribution networks and number of handlers, the chlorine industry believes their progress towards security and safety goals will be greatly enhanced. Alternative Treatment Protocols The Chlorine Institute is correct in acknowledging other forms of chlorine are available to effectively maintain water balancing residential swimming pool service applications. The wide range of alternatives allows for an easy and seamless transition. Our non-gas customers use these high performance chemicals on a weekly basis. Our pool specific chemical treatment protocol will depend on the type of material in your pool shell, product shelf and cycle life, product bulk and overall effectiveness in your environment. All chemicals used by us are approved for pool use by the Florida Swimming Pool Association. We fully expect pools in our service programs to remain aesthetically correct and fully sanitized. You will experience a seamless transition and your pool service will not be interrupted by this situation. Our service guarantee will continue to be in effect. Chemical Transition You do not need to take any action regarding your current pool service. Your technician has already transitioned your pool to a new chemical protocol. Your monthly service schedule and program cost will not change. However, later in this newsletter we discuss the availability of two salt chlorine generator options. In the event you want to take advantage of one of these options, you will need to call our office at 636-0903 to confirm arrangements. Salt Chlorine Generators Produce Pure Chlorine The diehard chlorine gas consumer should consider a residential salt pool generator. This is the fastest growing alternative sanitizing system. Most new construction pools are being equipped with these units. They are the closest alternative to our pure chlorine gas service. They are onsite (home based) in line systems that produce chlorine and inject it directly into your pool. A low concentration of salt added to your pool is required to support the process. This is a mild saline solution barely detectable by human taste. By comparison, it consists of about 10% of the salt found in seawater. Salt Chlorine Generation – A Good Choice As I noted last month, home chlorine generation offers the benefits of a pure chlorine gas program with few of its disadvantages. The primary negative issue is the initial acquisition and installation cost. Typically a reliable system fully installed will cost $1,200-$1,800. However, for a limited time, we are offering two options to our customers who prefer a Salt Chlorine Generation System. The first is a special purchase and installation option and the second option is free use of our system in conjunction with a service contract arrangement. Keep in mind you are not required to participate in either of these programs. Non salt customers will automatically be switched into an alternative program at no additional cost to you. Reminders All filters on open pools can be run for 6 – 8 hours daily. Screen enclosed pools should be running at 6 hours per day. Salt Chlorine Generator Special Purchase Option We are offering a special limited time arrangement for the purchase and installation of an Eco-Salt water chlorinator system. The total price is $700.00 plus taxes. The unit comes with a three year replacement warranty (warranty does not include labor on replacement unit). Service contract is not required. Biweekly service maintenance will continue at your current service rate and either party may cancel service maintenance anytime. See service steps below for additional detail. This offer is good through December 31, 2012 or sooner if current inventory is exhausted. We do not expect this offer to be repeated. Free Use of Salt Chlorine Generator with Contract If you live in a gated community, you must add North East Florida to your permanent guest list at the guard gate. Reservice on pools where we are denied entry is $35 and no credits will be issued. Our second Salt Chlorine Generator option is the free use of one of our units in conjunction with a twenty-four month service maintenance agreement then month–to-month thereafter. Customer must sign agreement authorizing us to remove the chlorinator and re-plumb (at no cost to customer) their system upon cancellation of the bi-weekly service maintenance. Chlorinator is warranted for the life of service maintenance. Bi-weekly service cost is the same rate as your current rate. This offer is subject to the availability of limited quantities. See service steps below for additional detail. By-Weekly Salt System Service Maintenance Benefits of using (regardless if owned or free use) a salt chlorine generator is similar to participating in our chlorine gas program. These include: Generation of pure chlorine Automatically injected into pool Low chemical swimming Better for eyes and colored hair Soft water feel Professional pool care service All chemicals included No transporting chemicals by customer No storing dangerous chemicals at home Monthly flat fee regardless of amount of chemicals used Chlorinator cell cleaning Pool Chemical Floater Some chemicals in tablet or stick form perform better when dispensed in a floater. Therefore, if you have a floater in storage we would appreciate you making it available for use by our technician. If you need to purchase one, they are available at most discount, hardware and pool stores. If you prefer to purchase one from us, we will sell it to you at our cost of approximately $7.00 plus tax. Simply let our technician know or call our office. We will put it in your pool and add it to your monthly bill as a one-time charge. In the event we don’t hear from you by January 1, 2013 and one is deemed necessary for peak pool performance, we will automatically put one in your pool and add it to your February bill.
