Student Leader Essay Contest
In keeping with its mission of inspiring courageous leadership in schools, the School
Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans will recognize three students (one student
in each division 3rd - 5th grade, 6th - 8th grade and 9th - 12th grade) for their experiences in
or understanding of leadership as evidenced by an essay. All finalists, their parents, and
their nominating teachers will be recognized at the School Leadership Center Spring
Celebration on June 7, 2013. Each year, the School Leadership Center honors a leader
in education at the Spring Celebration. Past honorees include Mrs. Cathy Vaughn, Dr.
Everett C. Williams, and Mrs. Ollie Tyler. This year we will honor students as well.
The winning student in each division will be awarded $250. The nominating teacher of
each winning student will be awarded $250 in materials from Triumph Learning, as well
as dinner for two at a local restaurant.
Teachers may nominate more than one student and multiple submissions are
encouraged. To enter students are asked to convey his or her thoughts on
leadership by responding to the writing prompts for that division.
Essay length guidelines are Grades 3-5 no more than 300 words, Grades 6-8 no more
than 500 words and Grades 9-12 no more than 1,000 words.
All essays must be submitted by THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2013. Entries may be emailed to
claforge@slc-gno.org or mailed to Student Leader Essay Contest, School Leadership
Center. Please include the contest application form with your submissions. All materials
can be found online at www.slc-gno.org.
