Bursary Application Package HERITAGE LEADERS WORKSHOP: CREATING A LEGACY Thursday 12 and Friday 13 May 2016 State Library of Queensland, Brisbane Bursary application package State Library of Queensland, in partnership with Museums & Galleries Queensland (M&G QLD), is offering travel bursaries of up to $1,500 to individuals and organisations from across Queensland to participate in the Heritage Leaders Workshop: Creating a legacy, to be held on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 May 2016 at State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for Queensland heritage workers and volunteers to participate, learn, and network with some of the Australia’s leading historians, creative thinkers, and heritage professionals. Each day will feature dynamic speakers and an intensive workshop program covering topics including: curating your First World War collections sharing your material and collections storytelling engaging your community with First World War material. To apply, read the bursary guidelines and submit a completed application form (Part A), responses to selection criteria (Part B), expenditure breakdown (Part C), and a brief curriculum vitae for all individuals attending. The Heritage Leaders Workshop is presented in conjunction with the 2016 Q ANZAC 100 Symposium on 10 and 11 May 2016. The On the Homefront Symposium features keynote speaker Professor Joan Beaumont leading the discussion about what the war was like for those living at home. Recruitment, conscription, political upheaval and Queensland’s rapidly changing social fabric will be topics explored by symposium speakers and panellists. Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation | Heritage Leaders Workshop 2016 Bursary Application Package Page 2 Bursary Guidelines Travel bursaries of up to $1,500 are available to individuals and organisations to attend and participate in the Heritage Leaders Workshop: Creating a legacy at State Library of Queensland on 12 and 13 May 2016, with a small welcome reception to be held from 6pm to 8pm on 11 May. Funding types Individual Bursaries for Volunteers Individual Bursaries for Paid Staff Organisational Bursaries Eligibility criteria — Individual Bursaries Individuals applying for travel bursaries can be either volunteers or paid staff in a regional library, museum, gallery, historical society, university, or undertake work in a heritage/history related field in regional Queensland. Individuals are required to attend all sessions on each day of the Heritage Leaders Workshop. Attendance at evening functions is not mandatory but encouraged. Attendance at the Symposium on 10 and 11 May 2016 is also encouraged. Applications for Individual Bursaries must respond to the following selection criteria (all of equal weighting): Selection Criteria 1: How will participation in the Heritage Leaders Workshop contribute to your development as a heritage leader in Queensland? Selection Criteria 2: How do you or your organisation encourage community use of heritage collections and local stories within your community, and connection with the wider Queensland First World War experience? Selection Criteria 3: What plans do you have to implement knowledge gained from the Heritage Leaders Workshop to the First World War and Anzac Centenary commemorations in your local community and throughout Queensland? Letters of support are also encouraged for Individual Bursary applications. Eligibility criteria — Organisational Bursaries Organisations applying for travel bursaries for volunteers or paid staff to attend the Heritage Leaders Workshop can be a regional library, museum, gallery, historical society, university, or other regionally-based organisation with the primary purpose of researching Queensland’s history and heritage. Organisations must be incorporated or be a statutory body. Bursaries will be offered to organisations as a contribution to travel expenses for volunteers and/or paid staff. Organisations are eligible to send more than one representative to the Heritage Leaders Workshop. However, only one application for a travel bursary will be considered to a maximum of $1,500. Applications for more than one individual must include a curriculum vitae for each individual. Selection Criteria 2: How does your organisation encourage community use of heritage collections and local stories within your community, and connection with the wider Queensland First World War experience? Selection Criteria 3: As a leading memory organisation in Queensland, what plans do you have to implement knowledge gained from the Workshop to First World War and Anzac Centenary commemorations in your region and in other parts of Queensland in the coming years? Assessment process All applications will be assessed by an expert panel of representatives from State Library and M&G QLD. The panel will consider relevant experience, skills, activities, and responses to selection criteria. The panel’s decision is final. Organisations will be asked to provide a tax invoice for the funding amount, to be returned with your signed agreement. Organisations registered for GST must provide an itemised list of costs detailing the GST component. Individuals can receive bursaries in two ways: 1. The bursary can be paid to your associated organisation (as per the procedure for organisations outlined above), or 2. The bursary can be paid to individual applicants. The applicant will need to provide their ABN. If the applicant does not have an ABN the bursary funds will be subject to 46.5% withholding tax. If individual applicants are registered for GST, they must provide a compliant tax invoice with an itemised list of costs detailing the GST component. NOTE: Applications for Individual Bursaries must show on their application form which payment option they prefer if their application is successful. Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation | Heritage Leaders Workshop 2016 Bursary Application Package Page 4 Costs Expenditure eligible for the travel bursaries include costs of travel (flights, bus, train, taxi, and fuel reimbursement) and accommodation up to $1,500 in total. Travel arrangements Successful applicants are required to make their own travel arrangements. Grant acquittal Successful individual and organisational applicants will be required to submit a brief report within six weeks of attending the Heritage Leaders Workshop. This acquittal report should include a financial report detailing the expenses covered by the grant, and a report (one to two pages) written by the applicant that outlines the professional development opportunity and describes the learning for the applicant and benefits to their organisation. Photographs and media clippings should be included in the acquittal report where available. Recipients of Organisational Bursaries are required to contribute at least one blog story as a guest blogger to State Library of Queensland’s Word War 1 Centenary blog. Recipients of Individual Bursaries are also encouraged to contribute blog posts. Recipients grant permission for SLQ and M&G QLD to use application information and photographs for the purposes of reporting and promotion as appropriate.
