She was engaged to be married to Joseph. (Mary walked in with the laundry basket knelt down folding the cloths) NARRATOR: God sent the Angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee (Angel begins sneakily tip – toeing from the side, making his way to stand behind Mary, who doesn’t notice) NARRATOR: with a message for Mary ANGEL 1: (jumps out from behind Mary) Mary! (Mary throws the piece of clothing she was folding in the air. Mary takes 2 steps away) ANGEL 1: You are favored by God and He is with you. (Mary was afraid shaking) MARY: what kind of greetings this could be? ANGEL 1: (holds out a hand out) do not be afraid, Mary, God is very pleased with you. You will have a baby boy and you will name him Jesus. MARY: (with a surprise look on her face) I’m confused; how can I have a baby? (Stretch out a hand, place the hand on a stomach) since I am a virgin? ANGEL 1: The Holy Spirit will come to you. The power of the Most High God will overshadow you. So the Holy One that is born will be called the Son of God. Your relative Elizabeth called barren is now six month pregnant. For with God nothing shall be impossible. MARY: (bow down her head) I am the Lord’s servant. Let it happen to me as He said. NARRATOR: then the angel left her. (The Angel exit to the side of the stage :) (Mary puts the cloths in the basket and exits to the side of the stage) SCENE 2 (Joseph walks in shaking his head) Joseph: now that Mary is pregnant, I must break the marriage agreement, hmm but I must do it secretly. (Joseph sits down and slept off) (Angel 1 walks in and stands at his back) ANGEL1: Joseph, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; because her baby is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. (Angel 1 walks out of the stage) (Joseph wakes up, stand up and walk round the stage, he was to happy) NARRATOR: Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman. Everyone was ordered to return to their family home town to register. And because Joseph was a member of the royal line, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, King David’s ancient home. (Mary walks in) MARY: Joseph! (Lowering her head) (Joseph walks up to her and held her hand) JOSEPH: I’m very happy, you are going to have a baby (Mary with surprise in her face node her head) he is the savior of the world. Mary, you are my wife, we must go to Bethlehem to register. (Mary was happy. The two walk to the side, holding hands) (Table, chair, scroll, register book, registrar, and the people that want to register on the stage. Mary and Joseph just finish registering their names) NARRATOR: while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born; MARRY: I’m very tired, the baby hmm….. JOSEPH: ok…. (Joseph held her and gently moves toward a door the inn keeper came out) JOSEPH: please we need a room; the baby is ….. (The innkeeper cut in…) INNKEEPER: Sorry, there is no room here, but let me help you…. (The inn keeper led them out of the stage) NARRATOR: But there was no room for them in the inn so they were taking to the animals sheltered. That night Mary gave birth to her first son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger. SCENE 3 NARRATOR: there were Shepherds living out in the fields near by keeping watch over their flocks at night. Suddenly an Angel appeared…. (Christmas light, cardboard paper cut in star shape with the Christmas light around it, nail to the stand) (The Angel tip –toes to the shepherds back with touch light in his fore head, jump to their front) NARRATOR: The glory of the Lord shone around them and they were terrified. (The shepherds terrified knelt down and bow their head to the reflection of the light) ANGEL 2: Do be afraid, I bring to you good news that will cause great joy for everyone. Today in the town of David, a savior has been born to you. He is Christ, the Lord. You will find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. NARRATOR: suddenly a great company of Angels appeared, praising God and saying… ANGELS: Glory to God in the highest, heaven and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rest. NARRATOR: when this great company of Angels returned to heaven, the Shepherds said to each other, SHEPHERD 1: come on! Let’s go to Bethlehem! SHEPHERD 2: Let’s see this wonderful thing the Lord has told us about. (Shepherd run out of the stage) NARRATOR: They ran to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in the manger. SCENE 4 NARRATOR: In a land to the East Wise Men saw new large bright stat in the night sky. It was a sign to them that a new King had been born. They packed gifts for the new King and set off to find Him. They followed the new bright stat for many weeks and it led them towards the land of the Jews and the city of Jerusalem where King Herod lived. THE WISE MEN: where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We have come to worship Him. NARRATOR: The King Monk took the wise men and brought them to the King. He told the King that they are looking for the new born King. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, he came close to the wise men to find out about the new born King, he had secret meeting with the wise men to find out what time the star had been seen. He sent them to Bethlehem and come back and gives him report about the new born King. KING HEROD: Go and fine the young child, when you find Him, let me know so I can go and worship Him also. NARRATOR: The Wise Men set off and were overjoyed when they saw the star. It led them to Bethlehem and to the place where Mary, Joseph and the young child Jesus were staying. (The Manger is brought to the stage with a star directly on it. Mary sat by the side and Joseph at her back, the baby in the basket in the Manger wrapped with small blanket. Mary and Joseph are looking at the baby. The wise men enter) NARRATOR: The wise men bowed before Jesus and worshipped Him. They opened their bags of riches and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They set off to go, and then God spoke to the wise men VOICE: Do not go back to Herod. NARRATOR: So they went to their own country by another road. SCENE 5 (Mary and Joseph lie down and sleep. The Angel of the Lord came to Joseph side) NARRATOR: when the wise men had gone, and angel of the Lord gave Joseph a message in a dream ANGEL 3: Get up; take the young child and his mother to the country of Egypt. Go as fast as you can! Stay there until you hear from me. Herod is going to look for the young child to kill him. NARRATOR: In the night Joseph got up and left Bethlehem with Mary and the young child Jesus. They headed south on the long trip to Egypt. (Joseph jump up from his sleep, wake Mary and carry the baby and left the stage) (The manger is move out of the stage) (Chair for throne is brought in, King Herod, walk in furiously shouting) KING HEROD: the wise men have refused to come and give me report about the baby… hmmm where is the baby born? (Turning to the priest) PRIEST: we don’t know, my lord. MONK: We had heard that one day a special person would come from Bethlehem and save all the people. KING HEROD: Thank you. Gladiator! GLADIATOR: Yes, my lord, how can I serve you? KING HEROD: go and find this baby and kill him, kill all the babies from two years below, kill all the male child. GLADIATOR: yes, my lord, I will find this child you speak of and kill him. (Gladiator removes his sword by his side and ran out of the stage.) NARRATOR: Joseph and Mary with the baby were safe in Egypt. After Herod died, an Angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream while he was in Egypt, to go to the area of Galilee and live in the town of Nazareth. THE END – THE PROPERTY OF THE GOLDEN VESSEL
