Provide a wide range of strategic planning studies and specialist advice to urban infrastructure owners to promote an integrated approach to the management of urban water supply, sewerage, and stormwater services, based on best practice, quality management systems and sustainable economic management. Contribute to the financial and long-term business viability by delivering projects and services in a focussed driven and effective manner. Key Outcomes/Accountabilities Lead high performing multi-disciplinary / virtual teams in the development and commercial delivery of strategic environmental and engineering projects which meet clients’ needs and requirements. Collaborate with key stakeholders to facilitate the strategic management and direction of whole of NSW Water Solutions centre of engineering and environmental excellence. Ensure team capability development through the people strategy including resourcing, succession planning, knowledge management, performance management, learning and development programs. Lead the development of integrated strategies, systems and processes for client end to end needs. Liaise with other stake holders on matters affecting the client and leverage NSW Public Works support and services to meet these needs. Lead diverse and complex projects balancing conflicting priorities to deliver high quality, innovative and environmentally friendly projects and technical services within agreed time and cost parameters, technical trends and government and regulatory requirements Provide innovative and rigorous technical advice and solutions, and be accountable for the quality, integrity and accuracy of the content of advice provided, so that NSW Water Solutions is able to provide tailored and high quality solutions and services to clients. Maintain and apply a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of current industry trends, practices and standards and Government policies, regulations and requirements so that proposed solutions are cost and resource efficient technically proficient and utilise current best practice technologies. Prepare fee proposals for complex multi-disciplinary projects that are robust and financially viable whilst being competitive with other industry bidders. Contribute to planning the strategic direction, business development and marketing of the Planning team. Provide professional guidance and leadership to professional and technical staff. Achieving financial performance targets and winning new work. Effectively marketing NSW Water Solutions capabilities and raising the Department’s profile in the water and wastewater industry and more broadly in relation to asset management to establish a highly credible position in the industry Key Challenges and Influences Creating and maintaining strong working relationships with clients and industry stakeholders and achieving expected financial and commercial objectives in an environment of strong competition whilst effectively managing current work and ensuring future projects are in the pipeline. Prerequisites Degree in natural resources, environmental science or engineering. Leadership skills at a senior level including ability to supervise, develop and motivate staff in a commercial environment to strive to improve both their skills and performance at an individual and team level Proven track record in leading and managing multi disciplinary teams of professional staff within a commercial environment including client management, project management and resource management Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including superior written and oral communication, presentation, client management and negotiation skills, and the ability to influence and deal with staff and clients Sound experience and skills in marketing and promoting engineering services Ability to manage multi disciplinary teams within a commercial environment including client management, project management and resource management High level analytical thinking and problem solving skills and the capacity to develop innovative solutions to complex problems In depth knowledge and extensive experience in integrated strategic planning studies for water, sewerage, waste and urban drainage infrastructure including water and waste management plans, strategic operational and financial plans and resource conservation strategies; Sound understanding of the investigation, analysis and design processes for water supply, sewerage, waste and urban drainage infrastructure projects; Sound knowledge of the environmental, planning and water management legislation, regulations and guidelines, including public health and safety and community acceptance issues; A valid NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to drive to remote locations, which may include overnight stays.
