Australian Junior Championships Coach Education Sessions
Following on from the successful education sessions at Australian All Schools, the National
Junior Event Coaches will again be running coach education sessions at Australia Junior
Championships.
The sessions will begin on the evening of Thursday 12th March with a lecture at NSWIS on the
theme of developing talent in junior athletes. The schedule will include a talk with National
Junior High Performance Manager Sara Mulkearns and National Junior Coaching
Coordinator Nicki Frey, a Q&A session with the highly successful Pole Vault coach Alex
Parnov and a talk by Athletics Australia Junior Biomechanist Mike Barber on the use of video
and apps in coaching.
The following morning will contain event specific practical sessions at the Sydney Olympic
Park Athletics Centre Track with the National Junior event coaches. This will be followed by
an informal gathering for a snack and chat with the coaches.

Kids’ Athletics & Sporting Schools – Book in for the upcoming upskilling
programs
From 2015, Sporting Schools will become Australia's largest school based participation
programme for children providing a supportive environment to foster a lifelong connection
with sport. Sporting Schools formally Active After-school Communities aims to encourage
more children within a greater number of schools.
Athletics Australia are working with the Australian Sports Commission to deliver the IAAF
Nestlé Healthy Active Kids’ Athletics program in the Sporting School Initiative from 1 July 2015.
Schools will be provided with grant funding for up to 3 terms per year to engage with trained
accredited coaches in their choice of 34 approved national sporting organisation sporting
school programs.
During the first six months of 2015 Athletics Australia will be developing the athletics program
workforce and will deliver Kids Athletics Coaching Courses in each state. This course will train
coaches in how to run a Kids Athletics program in the sporting schools model including how
to plan, progress the activities and run the final week Kids Athletics competition.
Pre requisite for the Kids’ Athletics Coach Course is to be a currently registered Accredited
Athletics Coach with Athletics Australia.
Sporting Schools offers Accredited Athletics Coaches who are upskilled as Kids’ Athletics
coaches an excellent employment opportunity, as well as the chance to deliver quality
sporting programs at schools - before, during, or after school.
Kids’ Athletics Coaching Courses will be held on the following dates. As mentioned
participants must be Level 1 CAC or higher and currently registered.
