President’s Letter to Members September 2015 Dear Member, The start of the season of events is nearly upon us and here is what is happening in October: The Oration and Annual Dinner, Friday 9th October Oration. 2.00pm at 23 Stonegate A public Lecture by Professor Dame Sue Bailey about parity between mental and physical health. Sue Bailey is Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and is an ex President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Anyone can attend, including students interested in a career in the health service, and I am sure the talk will be interesting and stimulating. Annual Dinner. 7.30pm at The Merchant Adventurer’s Hall 4 courses of excellent food including wine carefully selected for each course by Stuart Calder from the Wine Club. I promise the 4 speeches at the end will be short and hopefully entertaining! It’s not too late to send in your application form (obtainable from the YMS). Absolute closing date is Thursday 1st October and for letting us know of any requests/allergies. St Lukes Day Service Sunday 18th October at 10.00am, York Minster This is a ‘medical’ service and will take place in the choir end of the Minster. All welcome. Photographic Exhibition Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October Now is the time to start thinking about which of those wonderful holiday photos you took that you would like others to see. Closing date for entries is the12th October. Details from YMS office. First talk of the Year. Dr David Fraser. Friday 23rd October 2015 David will be talking about the history of climate change, a topic which will be of interest to us all. David will take a longitudinal view of climate change over the centuries and will look at what might happen in future and whether we can formulate policy to do anything about it.
