President’s Letter to Members
September 2015
Dear Member,
The start of the season of events is nearly upon us and here is what is happening in October:
The Oration and Annual Dinner, Friday 9th October
Oration. 2.00pm at 23 Stonegate
A public Lecture by Professor Dame Sue Bailey about parity between mental and physical
health. Sue Bailey is Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and is an ex President
of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Anyone can attend, including students interested in a
career in the health service, and I am sure the talk will be interesting and stimulating.
Annual Dinner. 7.30pm at The Merchant Adventurer’s Hall
4 courses of excellent food including wine carefully selected for each course by Stuart
Calder from the Wine Club. I promise the 4 speeches at the end will be short and hopefully
entertaining!
It’s not too late to send in your application form (obtainable from the YMS). Absolute
closing date is Thursday 1st October and for letting us know of any requests/allergies.
St Lukes Day Service
Sunday 18th October at 10.00am, York Minster
This is a ‘medical’ service and will take place in the choir end of the Minster. All welcome.
Photographic Exhibition Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October
Now is the time to start thinking about which of those wonderful holiday photos you took
that you would like others to see. Closing date for entries is the12th October. Details from
YMS office.
First talk of the Year. Dr David Fraser. Friday 23rd October 2015
David will be talking about the history of climate change, a topic which will be of interest to
us all. David will take a longitudinal view of climate change over the centuries and will look
at what might happen in future and whether we can formulate policy to do anything about
it. I’m sure there will be lots of debate at the end.
Such a lot happening and so many dates for your diaries.
Best wishes for the start of autumn,
Bob Adams
