Performs a wide variety of other tasks, which range from helping to set up the Operating Room for surgery to filling out paperwork which pertains to the surgery. Monitors the sterile field, informing operating room staff when something might compromise the sterility. Keeps the operating field totally sterile for patient safety. Initiates initial preoperative assessment. Assess patient’s need for postoperative transportation and care Assess for risk for postoperative complications. Verifies that operative consent has been signed. Verifies surgical site and marks site per institutional policy. Maintains aseptic, controlled environment. Transfers patient to operating room bed or table. Position the patient: function alignment, exposure of surgical site Ensure that the sponge, needle, and instrument counts are correct. Identifies type of anesthetic used. Reports patient’s response to surgical procedure and anesthesia Describes intraoperative factors (e.g., insertion of drains or catheters, administration of blood, analgesic agents, or other medications during surgery, occurrence of unexpected events Administers medication, fluid and blood component therapy, if prescribed Assists in OB-GYN cases like in caesarian sections, normal spontaneous delivery and dilatation and curettage etc. Monitors post op patients and ensure their safety after operations both in Surgical and OBGYN/L&D cases.
