2. Approval of Agenda (motion) – Agenda was unanimously approved by the LSC.
3. Approval of Minutes (motion) – The minutes of the September 26, 2013 LSC were
unanimously approved by the LSC.
4. New Business
 Discussion of Open Seat on the LSC – A number of potential council members were
discussed. The decision was made for Brigitte to send an email to council members
to determine potential members. Upon the provision of names, a consensus will be
reached and a final decision will be made via email. The new member will be invited
to attend the next meeting on January 9, 2014.
 Principals’ Update – Dr. Proctor provided an update on the following items.
o Enrollment – 1263 students enrolled
o Instructional program information – professional learning for teachers on
research-based strategies. Discussion was held about iPad usage and the
possibility for parents/community members to donate used devices to the school.
Dr. Proctor will check into this with APS to see if this is a possibility.
o Macy’s Tree Lighting at which SRS chorus members will perform
o Holiday Breaks
 November – week of November 25-29 – Students and staff members
return on December 2nd
 December – weeks of December 23rd and 30th – Students and staff
members return on Jan. 7th
 Election Results – A discussion was held about the Atlanta Public Schools Board of
Education election results. The decision was made to send a congratulatory letter to
Mrs. Meister now and to send one to the District 8 winner as soon as the election
results are known in December. Additionally, the decision was made to invite the
winners to a LSC meeting at Smith to forge a relationship and to inform them of
Sarah Smith activities, celebrations and concerns.
 Superintendent Search – A discussion was held about continuing to engage in the
superintendent search activities. The LSC members will produce an information
which can be shared with the SRS community (much like the information shared
about the BOE elections). This information will be disseminated via an eBlast in the
near future. Mr. Gregson will lead this effort. Additionally, LSC members will
engage with other SRS groups (PTA and foundation) to have a presence at some of
the superintendent search committee meetings.
5. Old Business
 Progress Report on Safety/Traffic – A discussion was held and the consensus was
reached that there is probably little more that can be done with the traffic issue. The
decision was made to continue to encourage parents to follow the traffic rules which
have been established. SRS parents should be more vocal to those not following
these rules as student safety is compromised when this is not done.
6. Adjournment – The meeting was adjourned at 4:25 PM.
Respectfully submitted: Ken Proctor, Secretary
