Honors Diploma Letter

Dear Parent,

This letter is a reminder that your son/daughter is attempting to earn an honors diploma from

Willamette High School. One of the honors diploma requirements is passing the state benchmarks in reading, writing, and math. Your son/daughter has yet to pass the writing portion of the essential skills requirement and the state is no longer offering a writing test for seniors. Since the state is not offering a test to our seniors, Willamette High School is providing three opportunities for students to meet the writing standard. Your student has already had one attempt at the writing sample this year, and he/she will have two more opportunities in the upcoming weeks. Usually, the opportunities happen during late starts, off campus time, or study hall periods. The writing samples are double scored using the official

ODE writing rubric. If your son/daughter does not meet the requirements through the writing opportunities we are providing, they will be ineligible for the honors diploma distinction, but will still be eligible for the standard diploma.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Andrew Van Fleet
