Previously Nominated Candidates are eligible to be re-nominated. One Nomination per form. Late or incomplete nominations will not be accepted. The Mississauga Arts Council is not responsible for applications lost in the mail or by courier. Eligibility An Emerging artist has some experience working in their medium(s); may not have a prolific body of work but shows promise. Emerging Talent and Established Arts Award nominee must be currently practicing in their discipline. These awards are open to both amateur and professional artists and his/her activities may extend beyond the borders of the city. Winners cannot be nominated for the same award within five (5) years of receiving the award. Current Board of Directors and staff of the Mississauga Arts Council, the MARTYS Committee and Jurors are not eligible to apply or be nominated. Adjudication Criteria For The Established and Emerging Literary Arts Awards 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Artistic merit Artistic message and the works emotional impact Originality of concept or idea Innovative use of the medium Technical execution of the medium The Jury may decide to break a tie using the artist’s community involvement from their résumé/bio (part of the category guidelines). Poetry includes, but is not limited to, artistic excellence in musical lyrics, verses, other poetic forms, etc. Non-fiction includes, but is not limited to, artistic excellence in script writing, journalism, scholarly works, etc. Fiction includes, but is not limited to, artistic excellence in script writing, novels, plays, etc. Selection of Winners Selection of the winners will be conducted by a Jury of three to four prominent members of the arts community from outside of Mississauga within their respective disciplines. The decision of the Jury is final. It is at the discretion of the Jurors of each discipline whether or not the award will be presented annually. The winners will be announced at the MARTYS on Thursday May 7, 2015. Mark this date in your calendar and plan to purchase tickets. Retain a copy of the application for your records
