(212) 378-2800 Fax (212) 378-2801 PIP Communications Manager Public Interest Projects (PIP) is a 501(c (3) public charity that operates grantmaking and technical assistance programs for institutional and individual donors interested in social justice and human rights issues. By developing sustainable partnerships among donors, grantees and allied groups, PIP seeks to foster a movement for social change resulting in equality, fairness and a stronger participatory democracy. PIP is seeking an experienced professional to step in to the newly created role of Communications Manager. Primary Responsibility: Under the guidance of PIP’s Director of Communications, the Communications Manager will: Manage PIP’s institutional communications to shape and maintain a positive identity through the organization’s website, social media, print and other communications platforms; and, help create and communicate information to target audiences (philanthropy and grantees) about organizational projects, services, events, funds and staff/executive leadership, in a way that articulates the work, issues of interest, values, opinions and expertise of PIP to its philanthropic partners. Work with PIP staff, particularly the social media team, Communications Director, key executive leadership, program staff and management to implement a robust PIP social media plan; develop/edit and post content across our digital platforms on a regular and timely basis; oversee consultants and vendors who support PIP’s communications and web IT efforts; promote PIP’s Yearly Donor Institute and other events; help communicate PIP to the philanthropic sector; and facilitate the PIP rebranding and eventual website overhaul. Specific Duties: Manage the PIP website, including: generate and post content on a regular and timely basis, prepare or secure text and images/audio; keep the website fresh by posting updates such as announcements, fund newsletters, bios, fiscal sponsorship information and other content. Work with program and executive staff to create and implement a 6-month to 1-year editorial content calendar; produce one to three short pieces a month, including featurettes, interviews, profiles, side bars, etc., on a rotating basis covering all PIP activities, particularly focusing on services, projects and funds that PIP has prioritized for marketing or programmatic purposes. Manage PIP Facebook and Twitter accounts and postings. Help launch the new PIP website and manage the implementation of organizational rebranding guidelines across communications platforms. Draft and edit/update traditional institutional collateral such as fact sheets, information kits and other print materials. Design, produce and disseminate a short PIP e-newsletter (at least twice a year). Handle technical upkeep of the website by interacting with IT providers, hosts and domain registration companies; Work with creative consultants such as photographers, videographers and social media consultants to create content. Interact with PIP staff to gather information, conduct interviews, fact check, synthesize information and prepare and/or shepherd drafts of pieces; participate in staff meetings and conferences as needed to gain knowledge about issues. Qualifications: . 4-6 or more years of communications work with a social change organization or foundation or for-profit entity with personal experience in the social justice arena; Excellent writing, verbal communications skills, particularly drafting and editing PR collateral and web copy; Strong social media and web-based skills, such as Wordpress, with demonstrated ability to expand and engage audiences through Facebook and Twitter. Ability to work with different personnel, including programmatic staff, grantees and executive leadership, to capture and communicate a “voice” for the organization. Keen research skills, adept at performing due diligence on content accuracy, good factchecker and proofreader. Ability to work with and manage consultants, including work plans and timelines. Interest in and experience working with social justice, civil and human rights, and other issues. At least a two year degree, four year degree preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.
