Checklist of things to bring Essential things that are not supplied..... 1. Bed linen: Cayley hall has all single beds and two pillows are provided. For University Managed beds take a look at the chart on our website to see what size bed your room will have. Pillows are not provided and in both cases you will need to bring duvet/quilt, sheets and pillow cases 2. Coat hangers 3. Medical card: Bring it so that you have easy access to your current doctors details. This will help you when registering with a local doctor 4. Towels: Bath and tea towels. 5. Cooking/kitchen Utensils: e.g. plate, bowl, mug, glasses, knives, spoons, tin opener, corkscrew, pots and pans etc. 6. Toiletries e.g. Toothpaste, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo 7. Any medications you need. 8. Cleaning cloths and detergents. 9. Iron. It might be worth waiting until you get here and buying one between your house 10.And…………don’t forget to bring toilet roll!!!! Useful things that you may want to bring..... 1. Food: snacks and drinks for the first few days (offering someone a cuppa and a biscuit is a great way to make friends on the first day). 2. Washing items e.g dirty washing bag, washing powder/fabric conditioner. 3. Electrical: 4 socket extension lead, bedside or study lamp, alarm clock, Stereo, computer and printer etc, mobile phone charge, mp3 player etc. Please note heaters, toasters, kettles etc are not allowed in bedrooms. 4. Earplugs, and headphones for your stereo. 5. Keyrings – keep ‘Home’ and ‘Halls’ keys separate and make sure that you can tell your keys from everyone elses at the end of the night. 6. Items to personalise your room Remember..... 1. Storage capacity is limited and rooms have to be cleared of possessions during the Christmas vacation so think “small and compact”. Don’t bring more equipment and luggage than is strictly needed. Don’t send items in advance of your arrival because there will be no-one there to receive them 2. Items not permitted in study-bedrooms include clothes airers, fires, easy chairs, settees, musical instruments (including, pianos, keyboards, drums. Contact your department for storage), large stereo amplifiers, freezers, 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. refrigerators, car batteries, surf boards, bicycles (which can be stored on site, elsewhere), the luggage of other students or other heavy/bulky items If you bring a television which uses a power source not contained within the set itself you will need a personal licence for it. Your home licence is not valid. A TV transmitter is nearby so an indoor aerial should suffice. The University is unable to provide vacation storage facilities for possessions students’ wish to leave behind. A local storage company provides a service, currently charging £10 per week for up to two suitcases or equivalent, pro rata beyond that. Laundry facilities are available on campus £2 per wash and £1 per dry (40mins) A NO SMOKING policy operates in all accommodation. Students are required to keep their own rooms clean and tidy. Cleaning equipment is provided e.g. Vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket, dustpan and brush. You will need to bring cleaning cloths and detergents. The residence package includes personal possessions insurance. Further information is provided on arrival, in a booklet produced by our Estates management team.
